Bad Breath! My baby can really stink! He is only 6 months old and is eating a little soft food in the a.m. mixed wiht hard puppy pedigree. After that just hard puppy food for the rest of the day. We also have a BIG dog who is still on the same puppy food and he doesn't stink. The Yorkie is loosng his baby teeth and so far everything looks fine. I mean i don't see any tartar build up. He has had all of his shots and is up to date. Any ideas?? |
I would try switching foods to a good quality food .....and also - does he have any retained baby teeth ? That can cause their breath to smell bad... |
Actually yeah he does have 3 teeth in the front still hanging in there. Should he have them pulled or let them come out on their own? |
I love these for stinky breath! 1 Attachment(s) http://americanvetsupply.com/product...=018W-ASP55061 My pups adore these things!! They keep their breath really nice, and satisfy the chew urge beautifully!! I have never used the site above, but that is the cheapest price for them I have ever seen! :p Good luck! |
Edie had a bout of bad breath at 6 months when she was losing her baby teeth. It didn't last more than a couple of weeks, though. Maybe your pup will have the same experience. How long has this lasted? |
I bought some of that blue "Puppy mouthwash" from Walmart. I put just a little in Chloe's water each day and it helps. |

Have them pulled. Tigger had to have this done recently and it was done within the day and he was back to normal. My vet says if they're not all out by six months they're determined to stay in there and you'll need to have them pulled. |
Hi, You can try Hills TD-Mini, it's a dry food that comes in nuggets. I've now split Betty Boo's dinner into half regular and half TD (about 8 nuggets) and she's clever enough to always eat the dry last. Also, I clean her teath with a canine ezymatic toothpaste daily then use an oral gel (called Logic), both of which I buy from my vet. She no longer needs to be booked in for detal de-scaling twice a year so the products pay for themselves and save her having all that general anasthesia too! One last tip: buy cat toothbrushes! They are the perfect size for Yorkies. |
Corn Starch though? Quote:

She is on wellness brand kibbles and I add a little boiled chicken ( picky eater) I was told that wellness can cause camel butt breath...I have tried other brands but, where she is so picky and she does eat this I hate to try something else...I was told Foster and Smith sell a mint flavored bone? I may order some and try that...Otherwise it is going to be Scope!! |

My aunt's Zoie has kick'n breath! (she just got her). Well, we're switching her to Merrick's and getting her baby teeth pulled, so hopefully that clears up! |
also when a puppy is losing his teeth it is normal for their breath to stink. but I would recommend brushing them twice a week with doggy toothpaste and a doggy toothbrush. human toothbrushes will hurt your dogs gums. best of luck. |

No, I don't think so, the contents for Hills TD-Mini are listed as "Cereals, Meat Products, Vegetable Oils & Minerals" so whilst there may be some corn in the "Cereals" section, I don't think they are mainly made from corn. Regards, Ian |
