I would use a high quality puppy food. I think the puppy foods are higher in fat and calories. Maybe also add some cottage cheese once a day. It might be a good idea to do a search in the breeder section and see what they feed the pregnant females who need more nutrition to support growing babies and follow their lead. |

My little Rowdy is thin too and doens't care much about food. I leave dry food - Solid Gold Wee Bits - you have to get it at a petstore, Walmart doesn't have good quality food. I also hand feed him wet dog food - again good quality, Innova is what I use - again, petstore (you may have to make a run to the city to pick up some nutracal and quality pet food - I do understand, I used to live way out, it was 120 miles to petsmart!) You can use corn syrup like nutrical - it doesn't have the vitamins that nutracal has though. I also hand feel Rowdy toddler (human) chicken sticks. When Rowdy was littler (he's 1 now), I would put corn syrup on his food, wet and dry to get him to eat it. I fed him cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, boiled chicken - anything he would eat - at least 3 times per day. You just have to work to see what they will eat and then try to feed as often as he will eat. |

Mine seem to pick up weight when feeding them Rice and Chicken, eggs and cottage cheese. and dry puppy food. |
I made the satin ball (meatball) recipe for my little picky eater Pippa. She loves them and she has gained weight. I made up a batch and put them in freezer bags (about 2 per). I used to give her one a day and of course, Scout had to have one, too. They both gained pretty quickly so I had to cut it down to maybe once a week treat. Miss Pippa treasures them so much that she goes through a whole ritual to eat them. First, she takes the satin ball from me (about quarter size ball), runs into the corner of my bedroom and attempts to "bury" it behind shoes. I see her in there rubbing her nose against the shoes-it's too funny! She has it eaten usually within the hour because I go back and check. I'm always afraid she will leave a piece somewhere and it will start stinking...it is raw meat after all! Never a shred of evidence left! Scout, my little piggie, gobbles his up in seconds. |
Innova Evo Both my girls have gained weight since I began using Innova Evo as their kibble enhancer. It's a really wonderful food, and they love it! I put less than a teaspoon on their kibble and they gobble it right up. It's been great for Dreama (4) as she was too thin anyhow, and great for Wosie (7 months) as she was slow to eat kibble. However, now I have to cut Wosie back a bit as she is gaining too much and is getting a tiny bit round in the belly. I can still feel her ribs, but I don't want a roly poly pup on my hands! |
