yet another dog food question Has anyone heard of the dog food comapny "The Honest Kitchen" - they make dehydrated raw dog food that you rehydrate before feeding? If I am reading correctly it is an organic food. |
I've not heard of that one but it sure sounds interesting. I feed the frozen raw food diet from Natural balance. It is sold in Petsmarts and some Petcos and it comes in little cubes so you just defrost the cubes you need for one meal each day. I would love to hear what you find out about this freeze dried food. |
I'm trying a sample packet of Honest Kitchen's Force formula on bunjee right now. He loves it. It's got real chicken and vegetable chunks. It's grain free with human grade, natural ingredients. What's holding me back in feeding this are: 1. price. the 4 lb bucket that yields 16-17lbs of food when hydated will probably last me about 45-60 days according to the feeding recommendations. meanwhile, a 6.6 lb bag of innova will last me about 45 days. that's $35 for 45 days worth of food vs. $10 for the same. 2. wet food vs. dry food. i would still prefer to keep bunjee on a dry food diet with wet food as treats. in the long run, i think that's better for his teeth. 3. in addition to the Honest Kitchen food, you're suppose to supplement with extra meat and other ingredients. that adds to the cost as well as adds to the amount of work for me for feeding (i'm a little lazy that way) so, if cost is no object, you want to feed a raw diet, wet food is fine, and you have the time to include supplemental food in addition to honest kitchen, then i think honest kitchen is a great choice. |
Thank you for your responses. What I can't understand is how feeding three dogs with a total weight of under 16 bs. can be so difficult! It sounds very interesting, but I AM sold on the Innova EVO. I am going to have to find a "low cal" food for Chizzie, she is a real porker -- even though she is the most active of the three and I control her food intake, she is packing on the ounces...... |
Honest Kitchen My dogs love the Honest Kitchen food. A friend of mine told me about it and I ordered I think at that time it was the 4 oz. packets. Any ways yummmmmmy my dogs and puppies say. |
Oh and I still feed the hard dry food for their teeth. But Honest Kitchen also along with it. |
I'd never heard about this before but funny enough there were some people talking about this brand in the dog run the other day. They seemed to be very happy with it. |
