Hair Loss Hi, I am new to yorkietalk and glad I found it! I have a 1 year old yorkie and she has had little patches of hair loss on the top of her head I noticed it pretty soon after I got her. It seems to get a little patch of hair loss and then it starts growing back but moves to another spot. My vet has put her on fungus medicine thinking it might be ringworm, didn't work. Then antibiotics for possibly a bacterial infection, didn't work. I am really frustrated with my vet he now says she needs to see a vet that specializes in dermatology which is very expensive before I do that I wondered if anybody has experienced this problem? Thanks, Bebe's mommy, Tressa |
Hi there, welcome to YT!!!!! You just need a new vet, not a dermatologist. That does sound alot like ringworm to me though. What did your vet have you use on it? |
Do you tie up Bebe's hair? It could be alopecia (medical term for unknown hair loss). If you do tie up her hair it could be too tight and pulling out her hair. You don't have a picture so I can't tell but with my girls I alternate between a ponytail and braids. I know what a relief it is when I take down my pony tail. Also to battle high vet bills, you may want to invest in veterinary insurance. Believe me it saved me tons of money. They usually reimburse anywhere from 30% to 50% depending on the treatment. I think its a bargain at $34 per month especially if your baby gets into serious medical trouble. |
Have you discussed the possibility of allergies with your vet? You might also check her for fleas. If she has a flea allergy, all it takes is one. What about a food allergy? corn, wheat, soy, dairy are some of the biggies. Good luck with your little one. It might not be a bad thing to get a second opinion from a vet who has a lot of experience with Yorkies. |
I don't remember what it was exactly but it was a liquid, at the time I thought he knew what he was talking about and it would work. I think I will take her to a new vet though |
Hair Loss....................... My Dudley had alopecia! I went through ringworm medicine, allergy testing, food changing, etc.......and then the vet said well, I guess it's alopecia........ Dudley only had one spot about the size of a quarter. The spot never moved and to this day it has no hair. His spot is located just below his right ear. Thank goodness the hair around the spot covers it. Good Luck............ Sandy, Dudley and Dinkey |
