Yorkie teeth cleaning Hi there, about a year and a half ago, I found that my yorkie (age 2 at the time) had two sets of teeth. I brought him to the vet and they pulled them. now he is 4 and his breath was so bad and his teeth were getting brown.. so I brought him to the vet for a teeth cleaning. When I picked him up.. my bill was triple and they ended up having to pull more baby teeth. I guess his teeth were in really bad shape. I'm wondering if he will eat more and gain weight now.. Also, how often should I be brushing his teeth? |

My other 3 babies had such bad teeth that in the end they couldnt chew any treats now really, u dont want to do that to urs and i am so sorry i let it come that far, every time i took them to have their teeth cleaned they came back with more teeth pulled coz they were so bad :( Give ur baby a dental stick everyday too it works the gums and make sure to give them dry food as much as possible. Chelsey gets her doggietreats and fruit,veggies like i said in another topic, but her main meals are dry food. ive learnt the hard way and i dont want to make the same mistake with this baby. |
teeth cleaning Thank you for your response, dental sticks? same as greenies? how much does your dog weigh? I just had his teeth cleaned on friday so I'm wondering when I should start brushing.... I dont know if he's still in pain, he's on 2 antiobiotics for the next few days. Do you think he'll start eating more now that his teeth are clean? |

Brush their Teeth! You have got to brush their teeth @ least once a day, even if they fight you in the long run it's for their own good and it will save you money it's called preventive care. I brush my Arties teeth once a day and he eats milbone treats. I even floss his teeth if I see something stuck in between his teeth. He is so used to it, it is part of his daily grooming routine 7 days a week! That's one thing I am not lazy about doing I firmly beleive you have to be disciplined about doing it. If you think about it once their teeth are pulled or have fallen out, the Vet. cannot replace them. I use the peanut butter flavor, he loves it so much that he won't stop trying to eat it while I' brushing them. I also clean his eyes/tear stains with warm water on some tissue paper everday. :eek: Good Luck! |
health Thank you for your responses! I'm going to order some flavored toothpaste now and some dental sticks. I called the vet yesterday but he didn't call me back :( I'm not surprised. Anyway, I wanted him to advise me when it was okay to start brushing Diesel's teeth. Maybe I should wait til we finish the antibiotics. |
teeth cleaning I have learned the hard way as well. I just had Cali's teeth cleaned 2 weeks ago. She is 7 years old and her breath was getting so bad that no one wanted her up in their face. Her teeth were getting pretty brown. I've tried a lot to clean them with a tooth brush which she totally hates. Anway. They were cleaned 2 weeks ago by a vet and she had to have 2 teeth removed. She has recovered wonderfully. No more bad breath and she's running around and playing like she did as a puppy. I wish I would have done this a long time ago. I'm now trying to get her to like having her teeth brushed. Not going to be easy but it has to be done. Good luck to all that are going through the same battle. :aimeeyork |

Cali has never had a problem with eating. She's loves to eat. She's 7years old and has always held around 5lbs. I've noticed since changing her to Science dog food. The little bites. She has gained weight. When I took her in to have her teeth checked out she weighed 6.9 lbs. I was shocked! Cali was ready to eat when she got home from after having her teeth cleaned. I tried to give her only soft food the first night but she started eating the hard food from our other dogs bowl. LOL I hope your dog starts eating better soon and good luck with the teeth brushing. It's still a battle with Cali but it must be done. |
Hi i have a question, daisy is going to be 9 months old but she has never gotten her teeth cleaned, i have noticed bad breath on her recently, so I went to the pet shop and got her a liquid that is used to pour in her everyday water, that is suppose to stop the bad breath, but it hasn't stopped it? my questions is if that's ok for to take, and if maybe it's time she gets her teeth cleaned professional?? I was thinking of brushing her teeth first and then if the bad breath persists then take her in for professional cleaning. :confused: |
Our breeder and trainer instructed us to start brushing Sully's teeth when he was small, to get him used to it. He still really doesn't like it and often puts up a squabble....but he does like the taste of the toothpaste and if I sweet-talk him, it helps a lot. We use Petrodex, and we've recently switched to the brush, but we really liked the finger-brush on him when he was tiny. :-) http://www.dogboom.co.kr/images/BD008_l(2).jpg |
Thanks Calibabe, i'll try that toothpaste but should i go ahead and use the brush or should i use the finger method?? do they come in different flavors? |
