Pls. help, my yorkie won't drink water My daughter surprised me with a lil yorkie yesterday. Her name is Paris and she'll be 2months on 2/5. Question, she won't drink water. How do i get her to drink water? There not suppose to drink milk are they? Oh, also, is she too young for me to start trying to train her to potty outside and is she too young to be on a leash. Ok, I think that's it for right now :) |
You could try dipping your finger in the water, and seeing if she will lick it off of your finger. Don't give her milk, most dogs are lactose intolerant. And as for pottying outside, I wouldn't do that until she has had all of her shots. You could peepad train her for now, and outside train her when she gets a little older. |

When we first got Baby Blessing she was like that, I got a sugar spoon we never used and she liked licking from it and then went to drinking from a tiny bowl, it was as though a larger bowl was over whelming to her. I even took the little plastic tray from her small kennel that they gave us when we bought her and she drank from it. Glad your daughter got you a baby yorkie know you are going to really enjoy her. Found that she is now eating better since I went to putting her food on small paper plate. (Thanks to the suggestion from some one here at YT). |
Since she is so young you might consider buying the puppy milk sold at most pet supply stores. Good luck, can't wait to see pictures |
You could also try goats milk - you could also try soaking her food in it and she would get fluids as she is eating as well. :D |
I agree with the technique of putting some on your fingers....that usually works for my girls when they are sick or something!! And I would you can start potty training to go outside as long as it is your own backyard, where you can montior the dogs that are usually use the grass!! |
I'm adding to the question of leash training. If you are going to start her make sure that you are going to use a harness instead of a collar. You don't want to pull on their tender throats, especially one so young. Hope she is drinking better for you... |

Sudo Bottle Feeding I think when I got my Toby he wasnt 100% weened (got him at 7 weeks) I kinda freaked out when he wouldnt eat or drink for a whole day so what we did was kinda force feed him. Water was our main concern bc we didnt want him to dehydrate so we got a syringe (the kind you give liquide medicine to human babies with) and put it in his mouth and slowly let it come out, that way it was kinda sorta like a nipple but even if he wouldnt take to it we could get some in him. That worked prety well, for the food we took wet food and put a little bit on our finger and smeared it on the roof of his mouth. It took about 4-5 days but he figured out the food pretty quick and the water dish was not to far behind. Dont worry if they're hungary enough and you make em they'll eat. :thumbup: Good luck with your new baby!! |

Awhile back my pup Taylor was not drinking water either. I asked the vet about it and she said she might not need to drink any water if she was eating canned food. Canned food has a high H2O content. Just make sure it is not hypoglycemia. If she is not active make sure to have some nutrical on hand. Taylor went through this and she would get to where she wouldn't eat or drink. |
