Luna to be spayed TOMORROW! I'm so nervous...worried... you know the usual feelings that come along when having to put one of our babies under the knife... :( I'm posting to know if there is any type of advice any of you suggest...what should I expect...how long is the recovery, etc...? I may have already posted a thread similar to this, but I think I was asking more about price and anesthics... Thanks in advance! :D |

Usually a couple of days should be enough for recovery time. She should be fine! Just take good care of her after you get her back from the vet and keep a closer eye on her than usual. She may be a bit groggy and tired from the surgery. |

Hi Melissa...I can't help you much with your questions, but I know the worry part of it! My Maddie is going to be spayed in a few weeks and I'm already so nervous...get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach every time I think of it! Anyway, I'll be thinking of you and your little one and wishing you the best! One thing I remember reading on this forum is that you have to keep them from jumping on or off of furniture for a while...guess that makes sense, but once they're feeling better, how the heck do you keep them quiet! Best wishes...I'll be waiting for you to post how she is doing! |

Hi Mellisa...i think it is just so cool that u're taking your week off to take care of Luna...what a lucky girl she is, she will get all the attention!! I would say just make sure she gets a lot of rest...i don;t have experience with female dogs getting spayed...but i wish all the best and a speedy recovery...keep us updated!! |

My Hailey also gets spayed tomorrow. I am also very very nervous. I called the vet this morning and she said they specialize in small dogs and they have never lost a dog. I am still very nervous. The vet also said not to let her eat after midnight and limit her water in the morning. i am not sure if they told you that so i thought i would pass it along. :aimeeyork |

Thank you all for your replies! Today is the day... Luna was in at 8:15... I'm really nervous right now, I had already settled a bit, but the vet just called be to let me know that they already did the pre-anesthetics and that they were about to start. She also mentioned how Luna was doing. She did a physical, CBC (bloodwork), and fecal exam...everything was normal. She then went on to say that Luna had 2 baby K9 teeth that she needed to get pulled out. I asked if she was going to do that today and she said yes. I kinda was shocked that she didn't really ask me if it was ok...? Made me a bit nervous actually, perhaps I'm just paranoid. All in all though I am very thankful that she called me to let me know how Luna was doing, I really appreciated it and thanked her. Last night I couldn't really sleep well, I was up bright and early and made sure to play with Luna. I feel so bad that she won't be able to play for a while until she is recovered. Like babbie mentioned, I'm on spring break. I scheduled Luna's surgery for this week for that reason. Hopefully, tonight I will be allowed to have her sleep in my room in her crate, that way I can hear her if she is uncomfortable at any moment. Yes, although I'm 20, my mother is still paranoid about a few things, she is very OCD and doesn't really like the dog/human mixing so much... lol so letting Luna sleep in my room is a big NO NO for her... cuban mothers I tell you ;) My thoughts and prayers are with you, Sabrina, and Hailey... please let me know if you have any word from your vet. Let me know if your vet suggests anything in particular, I will do the same. I will keep you all posted. I will also be thinking and praying for Connie and Maddie. Thank you all for your love and support! |

3 Attachment(s) Just because, here are some pictures of Luna from this morning. I was glad to see her so happy and being her crazy self... :D |

How old is your baby? |

Oh, please let us know how Luna is as soon as you hear anything! Tia's time will be coming up in a couple of months and I imagine I will be as nervous as can be :) |

Luna just turned 7 months yesterday. I will make sure to post as soon as I get word from the vet. :D I'm about to go take a nap, I can barely keep my eyes open. |

Good idea! Get some sleep, it will make the time go by faster for you! |

Yay!! Luna is ready for pick up! I'm off to pick her up in 5 minutes! I will post about it all when I get back home and I have a few minutes to post. :D |

Thank goodness! That must mean she came through it in flying colors! I'll be checking back to see your post! I saw the pics...what a cutie she is! Poor thing didn't know what she was in for today...that's what bothers me most about taking Maddie in. I've still got a few weeks to think about it. Ugh! Best wishes! |

Forgot to mention...I've said a prayer for little Hailey too and will be hoping for an update and the "all okay" from the vet! Best wishes...thinking of you also! |

Luna is HOMMMEEEEE!! *jumps with joy* Boy did I cry on my way back home with my baby, it's such a sad site to see my Luna being unlike herself. She hardly buldged when she saw me, I don't even think she could see me at first because of the "satellite dish" she now has around her neck. She is very mellow at the moment, just laying in her crate. I'm to give her 1/4 of water every 30 minutes to prevent dehydration. The vet never mentioned any pain relievers to give her so I called her when I got home and she suggested giving her 1/4 of a tablet of baby aspirin. Does anyone know if it's okay to give her the cherry flavored chewables? That's the one I have here at home, but I'm not sure if they sell any that aren't flavored. Well, I was so happy with how the vet came in before giving Luna to talk with me and go over everything that went on during the surgery. She also mentioned everything I need to know to help her recover at home. I'm not sure if you all want a detailed explanation of what the vet told me exactly but I will post the paper she gave me to take home with me. Oh, and the vet also gve me Luna's baby K9s, that she had to extract to prevent infection, to take home!! I was so happy because I have 3 other baby teeth here at home. Call me crazy, but I think it's so adorable! :D Well, ask away if you all want to know anything, I'm just not sure what I should say. Oh, I do think it's important to mention a very scary thing that happened to Luna during the surgery, her heart was fluctuating a lot, so the vet had to give her a shot to stablize it. She said after she gave her that shot everything was back to normal, *big sigh of relief*!! Thank you all very much for your prayers, they've come a long way. Well, I'll definately be around so don't hesitate to ask anything! :) |

Oh great news on Luna!!! So happy to hear she is home resting. Now both of you can relax and hug on each other. :p Thank you for the update. |

1 Attachment(s) I uploaded the instructions at photobucket, I wasn't sure if the size was too big for the forum. click here for the instructions given to me by the vet I also attached a few pictures of Luna now...so that you all that are about to get your babies spayed know what to expect when you see them for the first time after their surgery. |

Poor little Luna looks so sad in the picture! Hugs and kisses from Maddie and I! I am going to read your instructions just to get educated! I am so happy and relieved that Luna is over her ordeal. Has anyone heard how Hailey is doing? I looked at the calendar...was thinking it was 3 weeks till Maddie's surgery, but it is only 2. Yikes! Hope you and Luna get a good nights rest and hopefully you'll notice a huge improvement by tomorrow! Best Wishes! |

I hope Luna is feeling a little better this morning :) That little picture is adorable, she looks so out of it |
