haha. I won't tell him. I have never seens Aubreys all the way out, THANK GOD!. But he will peep it out sometimes  . Its nasty. |
This is actually a very serious condition called paraphimosis - it is the inability to retract the penis into it's sheath. If you are not able to get the penis to retract, then you need to get him into the vet right away. If it is out to long, then tissue damage will occur and amputation may be required and most dogs do not fare very well after this. I have seen some dogs where the owners thought that it would go back in on its own and amputation was required. Try to get the penis to retract by using ointment to lubricate it or try the sugar. But, if it doesn't work, then get them to a vet asap. |
Rusty just gave us a scare, it was out for quite awhile and we couldn't get it covered again. I recall my vet telling us to make sure its covered or he could lose it. Luckly the water soften the hairs and we got it covered. And those of you who haven't seen it out and up, prepare yourselves for quite a shock, my girlfriend freaked out when she saw it but I calmed her down and distracted Rusty with a ball- after just two minutes it was gone. |
Goodness!! I sware I learn a new thing every day on thi site! Hopefully I will not have this problem with Jeter, BUT now I nkow that this happens and will know what to do if it does! |
LOL, i only have to stroke Malachi and it pops out! :lol tears On a more serious note, if they don't go back in quick, try putting a bit of KY jelly on the end, it can help it slide back in. Obviously if it still stays out then take him to the vets. |
trip did this just 2 days after i had him neutered i thought it was his intestins whe i first saw it went all the way to his little arm pits he has only had that happen a couple times since then. he seemed so proud of his silly self. i was frecked out too!!! :yelrotflm :yelrotflm |
Max's peeney just comes out for no apparent reason sometimes:confused: . Not all the way out (at least I HOPE that's not all there is to it:p ), just a little, but it always goes back in. He never humps anything, thank goodness! At least, not yet anyway. |
That used to happen to Adonis when he'd hump his play toy. After his neuter, it stopped. I see some aren't as lucky as I was though! |
How old was he when you had him neuter? what vet do you use in mobile? we just move from baldwin county to lucedale I haven't found a vet I really like over here. |

OMG.... this morning Cody was humping his BoBo (the loofah dog) and i happened to look down cause he was acting ODD. so as i was looking at him i noticed his penis was all the way out hanging to the floor. i was freakin out. I didn't know what to do i called a friend and my mom. by then Cody had gotten it back in himself. he was out for like 15 minutes or 20 i guess. i thought about this thread and had to come post my experience.... next time i'll trying picking him up maybe the shock will make it go in faster or put him in warm water not a lovely sight you want to wake to in the morning LOL gotta love our boys!!!!!!! |
I am glad this post is back. Yesterday Moose was playing in our backyard with our friends 4 month Australian Shepard. (Moose will be 1 9-1-07 and was neutered when he was 5 months). He kept trying to "hump" Buddy. Then finally his "lipstick" was out!! OMG! He was very weird about it, walking around funny, (legs kind of apart) he kept looking at me, like mom ups up?? He also kept licking it. It went back in after about 5-10 minutes. Everyone keeps saying if its out too long...... if it won't go back in do this....... etc, etc. I wan't to know HOW LONG IS TOO LONG BEFORE WE NEED TO HELP??:animal-pa |
I think that damage starts to occur after about an hour but I can't really remember. When this happened to Bailey, he was in obvious pain and his little penis had started to get very red and irritated. I rushed him into the vet and they had to do an emergency surgery to neuter him. BTW, this can also happen if you leave the hair on the outside of the sheath too long. The hair can get caught and prevent the penis from retracting back into the sheath. I learned this with Tucker last year even though he's been neutered for over 7 years. |
wow...this is a very old thread!! |
This happens everyday We have noticed for the last few years that Mozart does a lot of licking in that area and sure enough it comes out. We have taken him to the vet numerous times about it. They have discussed surgery but feel it could be risky. He is 10 years old. He is neutered and has been since he was very young. Nothing changed, but one day the licking started and the sheath rolled back. At first, it was infrequent, but it has become a daily problem. The vet says that we need to keep it lubricated, but he just licks it off. He goes for grooming once every two weeks. They know to cut the hairs back. Nothing seems to help, so we live with it. I address it early in the morning, when I get home from work and before I go to bed. Since he is neutered, we just monitor it carefully. |
WOW now I understand part of why I keep coming back to Yorkietalk you're the best. I rescued my newest addition to the family, Spike, 1 1/2 years old about a month ago. Although he's been neutered I have nicknamed him "Sir Humps A LOT". Earlier today he was being extraordinarily Sir Humps a Lot, and then a little while ago I happened to pick him up and his penis was stuck in the out position. My vet had closed about 5 minutes prior to me noticing and I didn't know what to do. Sooooooooo Yorkietalk here I come, and I found out what to do, which at least caused my heart to stop pounding. He's back to normal now, now it's my turn to recover. Thank god for old posts :-) |

i have never had a problem oscar doing this but my airedale used to hump blankets and stuffed animals when he was a puppy and his penis was stuck we had to put a frozen washcloth on it to make the swelling go down. needless to say no more blankets or stuffed animals for him... |
This little boy will rummage through the entire apartment to find something...he just turns one of the beds upside down, or uses the arm of another bed....he doesn't care...he pulled an empty laundry bag off the couch, I believe that was the culprit this morning LOL |
keeping the hair on the shaft short helps so it does not curl the shaft back. Then if it happens a warm cloth that is wet works well. No problems and he does not mind. Most important...I do not make a big deal about it. I just pick him up and wipe. Then he doesn't panic or run just waits til I am done... |

and I'm SO glad it was still there.....or I don't know what I would have done...imagine what the emergency vet would have charged |
