Eye Boogers Does anybody else YOrkie have eye Buggers constantly. My Yorkie has eye buggers everyday. It looks kinda siimy sometimes. And majority of the time it is hard. Is that normal. |
I was about to call my breeder on this topic! My yorkie has the same thing. It's always there and then at times, it hardens up before I ever get to wiping it off so now there's a clump of hardended eyebooger on each eye and I tried almost everything to get it off.. I used soap, I tried slowly taking it off with a warm washcloth and it just won't go away! The only alternative I have is to trim it off with some scissors but I don't know if I should do that on his face. |
I am able to clean up the area with a flea comb. I soak it in hot water first so it is able to slide right out. It even stains corner of his eyes. I was just wondering if this was normal. I am going to take him to the Vet on Monday. I will ask them if this is normal also. |
Tia has this too, EVERY DAY! I asked about it when I took her to the vet the first time and he said it was totally normal. Every morning I get a warm, wet washcloth and a flea comb and clean them out. Some mornings are worse than others, but the boogers are always there :( Ew. |
Biggie just has runny eyes. Several of my friends with Yorkies find that they get crusty eye boogers that can simply be 'plucked' away. Biggie's eyes don't do that; they just seem to be really gooey all the time. I have shaved the hair on his face back, which helps a bit....I then heard that shaving the hair on their faces is bad??. Anyhow, I also have heard about a small operation that can be done on their tear ducts which really helps the problem. Does anyone know about this operation?? |
Cruddy eyes Freyja has "cruddy eyes" almost every day. I use a moistened cotton ball to soften it up and remove it with a fine toothed comb. |
That's very commion it's because of those tiny hairs that pokie them in the eye. Just get into the habit of wiping with a damp cloth or cotton ball every day. If they do harden, you can wet them and then comb them out. |

I use the same thing. I soak a cotton ball in warm water, wet the area then use a flea comb to get all the crust out. A flea comb is a very, very, fine tooth comb. Works great for me. |

and I agree with the poster above you, it is most likely the little hairs poking them in their eye which leads to excessive watering to the eyes... just do what fourdez does... 100% cotton ball soakedd with hot water, and dry it up with a lil towel or whatever you would like :) I then comb it out too....with a tiny comb so it doesn't dry up into one, like to keep them apart. |
yup princess gets them daily too... the ones that dont come out i just cut it off... |

Bentley gets em....I hold him down and dad wipes it away....lol |
Yep. It's part of Ozzie's :aimeeyork nightly wipe-down and comb ritual. Sometimes he is really good about letting me get them out. Other times, I need assistance. |
Lex used to get that a lot but it was from the baby hairs poking him in the eye so although I would love to let it all grow out so I can just part it that is not in the cards for his comfort. So I just trim the hair between his eyes and no more boogies. |

I was really worried about the eye stuff too, I thought he had a cold at first. But, vet said it was normal. |
May have a yeast problem Here's the checklist: http://nzymes.com/Articles/Instructi...toms_checklist I'm planning to buy this product to help with Gigi's breath. She lost her bottom milk teeth and her foul breath has decreased by 50%. She does have a tearing issue and ear issue that I hope this product will do the job. |
I do not know if this just coincidence or real. Since I switch to canidae she has less eye boogers. Some members here also experienced the same. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ht=eye+canidae |
I have 2 yorkies one one has eye goobies everyday that get hard and crusty and the other one hardly gets eye goobies. Weird!! |
Wow....i'm not the only one with this issue, i've been having Jazz checked from head to toe in the last few weeks and so far so good. Im not able to have him groomed because he just got neutered, and the eye boogers really annoy my hubby. Jazz let's me remove them and was his face, hopefully this helps |
Bentley is 15 weeks now. We went to the Vet for his 3rd Round of shots today. When we asked about his "eye boogers" the vet said it was normal and usually they go away...but he gave us eye drops to use once a day in the evening *1 drop in each eye*. He said it should clear up a little faster. |
I use a soft brissle tooth brush. I also have well water and my groomer reccomended that Chili could be getting too much minerals from his water. She suggessted that I switch him to bottle water and to ad a 1/4 of a tsp apple cider vinager per gallon. It was such a small amount and I started Chili on it but he shortly after got sick from some shots that he got so I moved his water to just bottle water alone for now. I am anxious to see if the remedy works. |
Eye goobers It seems that the older Josie gets, the more gunk she gets under her eyes. Anybody else see it that way or did I just not notice them when she was so young? She's now 9 months old. |
Bennett gets them too, he refuses to let me get them sometimes I make my mom get them so she can be the "bad" guy and then he will come running to me. He wont even let us use a warm wash cloth |

Think i found a product actually in pet section of TJ Maxx. My Super Dog pet ear and eye wipes 100 count. Wipe away stains and wax with one easy swipe.. My yorkie allows me access near his eyes and i genty remove most of the crust.. right eye worse then left..i believe my dog park nearby is a culprit because they spray the premises with something causing dogs allergies and told every dog gets their allergies only at the park. |
I would not cut it out as then the little hairs grow in and annoy his eyes. I find that u must do it everyday if I let it slip and it gets hard he will scratch and then off to vet we go.. a warm cloth gingerly and slowly on the spots does work. My vet used straight saline solution and that works the best at dissolving the ick. The vet did us a flea comb but I do not. I bought Miracle Care from Amazon Eye wash pads. Use 1 pad/eye. This is the best for me. It must bother him because when I say Eyes! He comes right over (he is 4 don’t be disappointed if you have a pup). Good luck |
All of my Yorkies have had them. Yorkies are very short, are way down on the floor or sidewalk or lawn where the minute bits of pollen, dust, detritus are stirring and are so short their eyes are like magnets for all of that. Particles in eyes, eyes tear and wash out onto the corners of the eyes/muzzle, where, if left, they can form into pus-like eye boogers. Tibbe is not that much taller than the St. Augustine grass on my property so his little eyes collect a good bit of stuff from playing in the yard, ripping around through the grass chasing squirrels! I think their little eyes, which often tear, are like dust mops for particles our feet or the wind might stir up, then their tears wash out the particles to the edges of their eyes where they can form as eye boogers. Dogs with bad allergies can actually ooze pus from their eyes. I just gave up worrying about eye boogers and clean Tibbe's eyes, muzzle/face, head, body, feet, tummy all over with a double wet paper towel twice daily. One end of the towel is quite wet and I lay that over his eyes to soften any eye goo he's collected, then very gently wipe that wettest part of the towel over his closed eyelids one eye at a time and down out onto the muzzle, all the way to the end of his mustache. I follow that up with the flea comb and carefully comb, wash through the area in the inside corners of the eyes until all the hair is totally clean and clear. You then have to soap wash the flea comb and be sure it's dry before using it again. Every couple of days I spray disinfectant on it, leave it a bit and then rinse it over and over before drying. Tibbe is so short and his coat is just like a dust mop - catching dust, particles and leaves from the grass, sidewalk and floor so a going over twice a day with a damp double paper towel keeps his eyes clean and clear, his coat cleaner, his feet cleaner, smelling better and the area over his penis free of urine stain. I end up with a few swipes over his perianal area with the unused portion of the paper towel and he's fresh again. Twice a day and you have only small bits of eye boogers occasionally. He stays a lot fresher and neater between baths this way. |
