Post Neuter care Bunjee just got neutered yesterday. The surgery went really well and he's recovering at home. I got both an ecollar and onesies just to see what'll work better for him. THe ecollar is completely useless. the one that fits around his neck doesn't extend out far enough to stop him from licking his stitches. the one that extends far enough is way too big around the neck. The onesies is working great! I'm just a little concerned that he'd poop in it. He was starving when i brought him home so i started feeding him little bits of kibbles and water by hand. this morning i gave him his normal portion of 1/4 cup of kibbles and left water out for him to drink. He ate and drank as normal. Now my concern is, except for the runny poop he had when he got home last night he hasn't pooped since. he's pee'd several times as normal tho. there was a few times where he's groan and growl and want to gnaw on his tail, but i take of his onesies to let him poop, he doesn't. i'm a little concerned that he might be constipated. is it normal for him not to poop yet? |
Just remember he missed almost a whole day of eating and the diarrhea was probably food left over in his intestines before you stopped feeding him. Just keep an eye on him as he knows something hurts back there but he doesn't know what. With the 20 plus dogs that have been spayed or neutered I never had a problem with constipation. Yes he could poop in them so you have to watch him. Now if you have to leave him at home then you will have to get an ecollar that fits him. I was lucky as I work from home so I never used either and kept them in my office so they didn't lick. |
Logan didn't poop normal til about 2 days after. Does bunjee actually have stitches. Logan had inside stitches and we didn't have to worry to much about him licking the incision. My vet said he couldn't open the incision, but it was possible the wound spray they spray on it might upset his tummy. I would just wait it out. If he's not pooping normal by tomorrow evening I would put a call into the vet. |
i'm not sure how an inside stitch looks compared to an outside stitch. but i know the area near his scrotum is a bit rough feeling right now. so i monitored him all day today. he pee'd, no poop. since he learned to climb the baby gate, i didn't want to risk him hurting himself climbing. so i had to crate him while i went to class. of course he had to go poop in the 3 hour time frame that i had to leave him at home alone. left a bit of a mess in his onesies. i'm seriously considering putting him in a newborn diaper and his onesies when i'm in class again tomorrow night. anyone knows what's the smallest packaging newborn diapers come in? |
oh, and can anyone tell me when is it "safe" for him to start licking himself again? |
My vet said you aren't supposed to get the incision wet for at least a week. If you can't actually see stitches then they are internal. It'll just look like a puckered scar. |
