Baby with overbite Hi Yorkie parents, Anyone with a Yorkie that has a severe overbite? My Biro Yorkie has an overbite, the breeder we got him from never told us and when she delivered him we saw that, but wasn't going to return him as I already lost my heart on the little one. One and a half years later, I took him to have his teeth cleaned and they had to remove 38 teeth!!!! I was so shocked and the Vet explained that it is because of the mouth defect (the fact that his mouth can't close properly as his lower jaw is extremely underdeveloped. His tongue is hanging out of the side of his mouth and although I feel sorry for him I still love him to bits and help him by soaking his food and treats before giving it to him. My question, what is the life expectancy of such a defect? the fact that he lost so many teeth so early in his life have an influence on his overall health? |
I’m guessing if the breeder didn’t pay attention to the genes in the dogs she was breeding like an over bite I would be concerned about other genetic issues popping up. Dogs can live a very long time with no teeth and several genetic issues. My youngest boy has a small overbite and if he relaxes or is sleeping his tongue will slip out a bit. My oldest girl has the genes for bad teeth so when she had her first dental at 5 she had a lot of bone loss and had 11 teeth removed but was feeling much happier after they healed so I know they must have been bothering her. |
