Found-food ritual Hello, Our two 8-month old puppies often show no interest in their food until they feel they discovered it. I’ve started to cover their bowls with a cloth and then they will nose around it and make a show of sniffing it out and searching for it. Then, when I or they remove the cloth they’ll eat it readily. If I try to give it to them directly they will usually refuse. Have any of you experienced this behavior? I’ve never seen it in any of the dogs I’ve had previously. Thanks, Larry |
Yorkies are quirky lil rascals. If making a game of hiding their food gets them to eat, then go for it. Nothing wrong with making a game when it's feeding time. Enjoy your quirky little rascals :) |
There are days Joey will do this but it is not an all the time thing. I wonder if they would like one of the toys or slow feeders were you have to roll it, shake it or move it to get their food out. |
Thanks for both your replies. I’ve seen those products where dogs need to manipulate them to get the food or treats. I guess I should look In to those more. Thanks, Larry |
These little Yorkies are so smart. I have 3 month old who will start to eat. Play with kibble and throw up in air. Take my 2 pounder put in my lap and ears great being handed done kibble at a time. She acts just like a human baby. Whatever works to make sure they eat. |
