Is my puppy overweight? Dexter who is now 12 weeks old has just been to the vet's for his booster vaccine .. he got weighted and is 4.8 pounds. The vet isn't concerned at all. Would you say he is overweight? |
Hard to tell without pics. Generally speaking I have never met an overweight puppy. |

I have to agree MikaTallulah, I too have never seen an overweight puppy. These high energy baby's burn a lot of calories. Just have fun with that lil fur ball :) they grow so fast. |
The vet would certainly know if your pup was overweight. So if the vet isn’t concerned, his weight is likely within normal limits for his frame. Given his weight at 12 weeks, he’s probably going to be a twelve to fifteen pound adult yorkie, which is not unusual or unhealthy if the weight is proportionate to his bone structure. |
Just weight is not how you determine whether a dog is over weight. Just because the Yorkie standard might say not to exceed 7 pounds doesn't mean any Yorkie bigger is over weight. Puppies really aren't seen as being overweight so I highly doubt it especially if your vet is not concerned. I think you are just going to have a larger Yorkie. |
