The pickiness...
 

Omgosh its bad. I just don't get it. Royal Canin lasted longer than any other food. I stuck it out and then had to start toppers. Some he liked, others he didn't.
He won't touch his food plain. Not even if I fed him by hand.
Now he picks out things he likes and leaves the RC.
He tried to go for my other dog's food as if he was starved.
Then I used some of that as topper til he only ate that and then he stopped eating it as well.
I worry he will get low blood sugar if I just leave the RC out plain because he isn't touching it. He was shaky this afternoon (he refused his RC at breakfast and lunch) and I was worried it was because he hadn't eaten since dinner the day previous.
Kongs dont entice him anymore with his food in it, lick pads dont either

Has anyone else had such a picky eater? I am going to try one more food (the honest kitchen) and then I'm taking him to the vet again. The next food I am placing the other dog on as well and that will be it.

If you continue to give him other foods, he will continue to refuse to eat and hold out for you to give him something else!

Most pups do NOT get hypoglycemia unless they are super young and super tiny.

I would not leave food out. Put his food down and if he doesn't eat it, pick up the bowl until the next feeding!

Changing foods is teaching him to be picky.

If he is a normal, healthy pup I seriously doubt he is going to be hypoglycemic. My money says he will eat before that happens. Of course, you must be careful, but I have a feeling you are letting your fear of hypoglycemia take over.

Ladyjane is 100% right, Mr Flint is training you.
However, I am as you are and none of my babies were small. When it came to them refusing 2 meals I went into panic mode, not for fear of hypoglycemia, in fear something was wrong, maybe they were sick.

My guy is not a picky eater but I always keep boneless chicken breast in the freezer for "just in case".

Have you tried boiling a small piece of chic cutlet breast and shredding a bit over his food as a topping, also sprinkling some grated Parmesan cheese over his food may help in perking up his appetite.

Trust me, you will NOT be wondering if you ever see a truly hypoglycemic pup....they are much sicker than a bit shaky. They get TOTALLY out of it! It is rare for a healthy dog to get that sick.

Talk with your vet about this!

I would put NOTHING on his food that you don't intend to feed him all of the time. He needs to get used to eating what you serve!

Matese, I did do boiled chicken as well. He picked it out to eat and then next meal he didnt even want it.
I have never dealt with such a picky eater!

So last night he would spit out his food if I tried to feed it to him. So weird to see! Then he wouldn't take it at all until my son went in the kitchen to prove me wrong. And well, Flint ate all he fed to him!!!
Today he skipped breakfast and lunch. At dinner, he wanted peppers food out of her dish. I tried to feed him his own food and he spit it out. So weird to see again!
So I took his dish to the couch, acted like I was eating it and he then wanted some out of my hands.
He ate half like that and was done. So I put the rest in peppers dish and he ate it up.
He is so weird!!

A healthy adult dog should not get low blood sugar so that shouldn’t be a concern. If you keep changing food he is going to stay picky. If he knows you aren’t going to change he will eventually eat.

LOL, they are quirky lil characters.

He is not weird. He's smart!! Read what you said about him eating for your son and ask yourself why he ate for him. :)

Ladyjane, I have to think its because it was something different. He seems to get bored way too quickly. I agree he is very smart.lol

No, I think it's because he knows you will give him something else! Most yorkies, especially puppies, have short attention spans. Being bored does not make them picky eaters....he is smart and knows if he doesn't eat, you will give him something else. He keeps doing it and you keep changing the food. Trust me, at this point it is not the food and it is not boredom!

I wanted to share my experience with my picky eater who passed away on March 9th (heartbroken) ... if I continued to try and feed her the food she didn't like we wound up in the vets office with pancreatitis. In her case, something in each of the different diets I had her on would end up disagreeing with her and we had to switch, so we kept switching over and over again for several years. We finally ended up on My Perfect Pet frozen whole food diet. Perhaps it was just kibble in general that bothered her so much. So she was on My Perfect Pet for 6 years. They have different formulas to chose from. She ended up with diffuse tumors in her liver and an enlarged heart, so enlarged it was collapsing her trachea. I was thinking about having a necropsy done so I could hopefully learn more about what plagued her digestion all her life, but in the end I just couldn't do it because at 15 years of age, I was too devastated by the loss.

PS. we also quit vaccinating her as there is some evidence of a link between IBD and vaccinations. I also quit giving her flea medicine in the last several months of her life. She pottied on artificial grass which is flea resitant. It was during this period that I noticed the most improvement in her stool.
