Just in case anyone is interested, I suggest going to the following link and in the search area, put in:

There are many questions there about this subject of balancing raw food. If you click on the answers you can read what the vet nutritionists recommend:

I know people want to believe what they read on the internet but one must ALWAYS look at the source of information.....and the people's qualifications. In the case of the site above, there is a link to view the resumes of the people who are running that site. You don't always see that on the dog food pages on the internet...just a whole lot of we are this and we are that. If they don't have the educational background, I give them not one ounce of my time and I sure as heck won't feed any of my pups what an unqualified person swears is good.

There are far too many self proclaimed experts in animal nutrition on the internet.

Does anyone know what specific heart issues were caused by the grain free diets. I tried a Google search and came up with nothing but pages and pages of links for food ads. I must have Googled wrong. My baby died with an enlarged heart at 15 and was on grain free most of her life. I thought the heart problems only affected larger dogs.

Good information here, thank you. I had my precious baby on so many different foods over her years, mostly dry and mostly grain free, that I don't know what to make of these studies just yet. She did die with an enlarged heart and diffuse liver tumors at age 15. I sure would like to know what caused all that because it doesn't seem to be genetics.

I doubt it was food. She lived a long life. The longer we and our dogs live, the more susceptible we are to certain illnesses and conditions.

Personally, I would never feed raw. Too many risks for my liking.
As to a puppy, I urge you to consider puppy food....if I were you (of course I am not) I would continue with the RC that the puppy is used to.

Hi,
Haven’t been on here for quite some time but….I have a question.
I have a year old yorkie now and she “eats” RC Yorkshire Terrier food but……she doesn’t chew it, I believe she swallows it whole. I’m wondering if she may need larger kibbles. I just don’t know what to get her. Not sure if the regular RC regular adult food would be bigger.
I’ve always fed my Yorkies RC with no problems.
( by the way, it’s nice to see one of the “old timers” still on here.

There are actually a lot of dogs that do that and their stomach acid can break it up. I do have one maybe 2 that do it. There are actually a lot of dogs with no teeth that still prefer to swallow dry food rather then have soft.

Since I have 5 dogs of all different ages that we free feed, I feed them Canidae All Life Stages dry food. The kibble is still small but they have no issues eating it.

I have four on the RC Yorkshire Terrier kibble and they love it! Many dogs don't chew the food. That's actually fine! You could add warm watter to it but she may not like it. I do that with another pup I have who is on low fat kibble because she kind of chokes on the kibble but hates the canned. They are funny little things. :)
