Senior Biewer off food I have a senior Biewer that started being picky with his food 2 days ago. He would eat some of his kibble out of my hand but then he would not eat anything this morning. Then this afternoon I put some kibble in my hand and he ate some then. He's also on two meds that he takes without any problems but he would not take them today and I had to make sure forcefully, which I don't like to do, to make sure he took his medicine. So my question is, what do you do in this situation? He's not in full anorexia where he hasn't eaten at all in 24 hrs. I know dogs are smart enough not the starve themselves so I'm sure he will eat when he's ready but he is a senior. It's also tough because I can't just go and switch his food because he is on a prescription diet. He's also not acting sick at all, he's acting his normal happy self with wagging tail and everything. Any advice would be a great help until I get a hold of the vet. |
WOW!!! Out of over 40 views of my thread, it's hard to believe that no one has experienced this with their dog. I'm just surprised I have no replies |
Hi, I hardly ever get on these forums anymore, but happened upon your post. If this is unusual for him not to eat, I'd say a vet visit may be in order, especially as a senior. My Jackson is a food hound and the minute he acts even a little hesitant about food, it is usually his pancreatitis or a belly issue brewing, so I try to catch it early. What about teeth? Could be a mouth issue as well. Dogs are pretty good at hiding pain. |

I had a yorkie a while back now, but he would do the same thing. I kept proviable on hand both paste and in pill form and that seemed to clear up whatever was ailing him. Could be nausea or tummy ache. |
