Heartguard and Flea Medications Good afternoon, Just wondering if someone could give me some guidance on heart worm medication? Is flea medication necessary for indoor Yorkies? Has anyone used Sentinel with any problems? So nervous to start her on this medication. Thanks so much 😊 |
I'm a huge fan of heartgard, it has been around forever and I am very confident in it. My yorkies are all inside dogs but go outside for potty breaks and occasionally to lay in the sun and run around so I use flea and tick medication. I use nexgard and have had no issues with it either and it is what my vet uses. When I was a kid we had a dog that go fleas and it was a nightmare trying to get them out of the house and off the dog so try to avoid something like that happening. |
Thank you so much for your input! It’s truly appreciated. Such a worry putting them on anything, but definitely a worry if you don’t! |
I have had good luck with Interceptor Plus for heartworm. For flea/tick I just do as necessary. I don't use oral flea/tick meds since Jackson's belly issues -- I just don't want it to be processed through his stomach just in case. So we use the topical now maybeee 3 months out of the year in the summer. He gets baths every week in the summer as well so we're always checking for ticks. |

We use Heartguard for our girls. I have never had a problem. I do stretch it out a little about every six weeks. Jazzy and Dixie think they are getting a huge treat so it must taste pretty good. I don't know if you remember but years ago Vivi (RIP) got into the Heartguard and ate a whole box while we were out. I called poison control and the emergency vet and it turned out that they can eat a bunch before it can cause problems. Thank heavens. |
