Vetmedin Has anyone used Vetmedin 2x daily for their pup? My rescue has a heart murmur. She had an echocardiogram a couple of days ago and this is the recommendation. I had a poodle years ago who was on a different medication and I don't remember her having to take it twice a day. Thanks! |
The dosage of Vetmedin depends on what grade heart murmur your pup has and also the results of the echocardiogram. I have Biewer terriers and my male is between 11-12 years old and he was diagnosed with cardiac valve disease in 2017. His heart murmur was a grade 4 out of 5 and since he's been on the Vetmedin for 3 years, his heart murmur has actually gotten better to a grade 3. His heart has actually gotten smaller as well. He is on the lowest dosage of Vetmedin twice a day but this is prescribed by his cardiologist and not his primary vet. Who diagnosed your pup? Your primary vet or does your pup now see a cardiologist? |
Vet Medin She had an echocardiagram and was prescribed the medication by the doctor who did the echo, not my primary vet. She is on 2.5 twice a day. I gave her her first pill this morning. Had to break it into quarters as even 1/2 is too large for her. Had to give it to her with chicken. She would not take it with a pill pocket or even peanut butter. I was hoping she would like it but no such luck, even though it is chewable. She is a rescued senior but I'm not sure of what her actual age is. |
It took a while for mine to take it. I wrapped it in some cheese for a while but then he started taking it without it. Good luck! |
Vet Medin Thanks! I put it in some cream cheese this morning and that did the trick. Last night it was part of a baked potato. Hope she begins to take it willingly soon! |
I have found it easier to give my pups their medicine in their food. They are smart and if you give them medicine in a treat and they happen to find the pill, they will be less apt to take another. I always put it in something different in their bowl so that I know they took it.. |
