Elder Yorkie with few teeth We have a 17-year-old Yorkie, Shamus. He has normally been on a royal canine dry food diet however over the years, Shamus has found it hard to eat dry food after having teeth removed. We have been giving him Iams canned food since that seems to be what he likes. However the senior food in cans is becoming extremely hard to find. Anyone out there having to feed their Yorkie canned food as a sole source we’re looking for ideas on a canned food which we can purchase regularly. |
It’s really difficult to predict supply issues during the pandemic, but here’s a tip I’ve used for years with fosters: If you have a senior dry kibble that your dog likes, soak it in warm water for a few minutes and then put it through a mini food processor. You can use more or less water, depending on the consistency your dog prefers (anywhere from soupy to the consistency of canned food). I have several mini food processors that I’ve picked up at Walmart for less than $30. Preparation and cleanup is very easy. |
One of my Morkies had all but 3 teeth pulled. I just put her RC for Yorkies kibble in a covered bowl with some water in the refrigerator overnight; in the morning it is soft enough for her to eat, but still slightly formed. RC is much better than Iams, so stick with what he is used to. |
