HELP: bald spot On yorkie
 

In search of help!

So I noticed this bald spot on my Yorkie when he was about 6 months old. He’s now 1 year old. I always thought I may had cut his hair too far there on accident however I feel as if the bald spot is getting slightly larger.

It’s always slightly pinker than the grey of his normal skin but he never bites or scratch’s at it at all.

Please let me know if anyone had encountered this in the past. I took photos and a video but don’t know if I can share on this site.

Where is the spot and what shape is it? Is it possible it is where he had a rabies vaccine injection? They sometimes leave a round, bald area.

The fact it is on her right hip tells me that rabies vaccine may indeed be what caused it. Just call your vet to see where it was given and ask their thoughts.

I agree with Linda about it possibly being because of a vaccine. It dose not look like there is anything else going on there but next time you see your vet you might want to have them check it out.

please take your dog to a vet specialist to be sure it's not cushings disease. There is medication for this. My toy poodle was not as fortunate. He ended up dying a miserable death with diabetes (500 bs which never went down with insulin), blindness , loss of hair and terribly ill. I wish that i would put him down sooner.

I have not encountered this on my Yorkie but did on a toy poodle. He was a larger toy puppy and had developed a quarter size bald spot in his beautiful toy poodle hair at 1.5 years of age. The vet could not find anything wrong. No meds were given as it was considered something inside of him was causing it. It eventually went away and the hair grew back. I should have requested more tests but I didn't. He had developed this spot again at about 10 years of age. At 11.5 years of age, he had started losing weight and his hair. Another Vet discovered that he was diabetic (meds could not bring his 500 BS down even on insulin). He looked really ill. I had searched the internet and felt that it may be Cushings disease. My Vet did not agree with my opinion. The Vet referred me to a Vet Specialist which on the second visit she had informed me that she had agreed with me that he was showing signs of Cushing's Disease. They had wanted to hospitalize Jacques at about $5,000 which I could not do. The Vet Specialist decided to work with me and do what I could afford over time but he died that night. We were never so heart broken about our Jacques. He was a beautiful dog who had beautiful hair. I would highly suggest that you take your dog to a Vet Specialist now as there are medications to slow the process on many diseases out there. I hope that your little Yorkie does not have this but I would not take a chance. I watched my Jacques die and it was horrible. I should have put him down a month earlier. This little dog would look up to me every time I gave him food. He was telling me "thank you". He is forever in our hearts.

It would be extremely rare for that young of a dog to have Cushings. I highly doubt that, that is what is going on. I had a dog that had Cushings and there is a lot more that goes into it then just a hairless spot.

My dog was 12 yrs of age when the Vet Specialist had informed me of the suspected Cushings status. She was going to begin testing the next day but my dog had passed away during the night. My dog had every symptom but one that was listed at the time for Cushing's Disease. I am no expert on this disease but I did listen to what the Vet Specialist had informed me. I had already searched everything I could on this disease. My dog's parents and grandparents were 10 inch toys. Jacques was a very large puppy and became 12 inches tall. He had beautiful hair for many years but was losing all of it at 11.5. The Cushings Disease was not my dx, it was the opinion of the Vet Specialist.

I was referring to you thinking the original posters dog might have Cushing's not your dog. The original posters dog is a year old so generally to young.

Losing hair and having one round spot of baldness are totally different things.

What the OP posted was not anywhere close to being a sign of Cushings.
