TPLO surgery or to wait Hello everyone, This is my first post here. I find this forum super useful and decided to ask you about one issue that is bothering me. I have 3 Yorkies, Terry, Dolly and Lilly. Lilly woke up one day, three weeks ago and she started to limp. We've been on vet and they diagnosed her with torn ACL. The vet told us that she must to do TPLO. We are not sure should we wait and try to recover her by resting that leg or do the surgery. Here is my beauty Lilly - https://prnt.sc/r1g39s Any thought is appreciated, Thank you, Dan |
If you do not do surgery she will end up with debilitating arthritis. You need to do the surgery but I would only do it with an orthopedic specialist. Mine has been through that twice. You also need to prepare yourself for the other one to eventually tear also. |
Hope things work out well for Lilly. Keep us posted. |

The other leg is at a 50% greater risk of tearing, but that is not a given. I have not had it happen to my pups who have had the surgery. Agree with you....no way I would wait. Arthritis starts pretty quickly if not repaired. The following link is an article written by the surgeon I use. Yorkie Haven Rescue - Cranial Cruciate Ligament Tear Info |
