Pee pad in playpen I just brought my new baby, Zoe, home 2 days ago. She is 3 months old. I have her in a playpen at night that has her bed and a pee pad. My daughter is telling me that the pen is way too big (should only be able to stand up and turn around) and I shouldn’t put a pee pad in there with her. As she is so small (3.5 pounds) there is no way she can hold it all night. Thoughts on this? |
I used crates and outside trained my dogs so not sure I can be much help with this. When crate training you would make sure the crate is only big enough for them to do that and when they would cry you would take them out to potty and then put them back in to bed and continue that every time they wake up crying. You could do that with pad training though and just take her to the pad when she wakes up crying. |
I also did the crate training. My rule (which hubby didn't do) was take her outside directly from the crate. This worked really well for us. If I left the house for a few minutes, I put her in the crate and then immediately took her out when I came in the house. Didn't take long for her to get the idea. |
Hi just sharing, we have a playpen, with a crate, bed and pee pad inside it. Our Bella caught on really quickly to go on to the pee pad by herself in the pen at night when we got her at 8 weeks from the breeder at 2lbs. Our dog trainers (she went to 3 different dog training schools) always told us to crate her and bring her out like others say in this forum. My husband and I found it hard to crate her because she looked so sad in there and cried. I’m so glad it worked out fine for us. In the first 2 months after we got her, I would wake up early every morning and saw that if she didn’t go yet I would take her outside to the backyard where she went right away. After a couple of months we didn’t have to get up as early as before, since she would just go on the pee pad on her own if we didn’t wake up in time. She’s housebroken today and I have pee pads on 1st and 2nd floors. She only goes into the pen at night for bedtime or whenever we leave the house and she doesn’t mind at all. She never barks either, such a sweetie, we are so very lucky! She's 19 months old today and 6 pounds. |
Our winters are bad, so there are times we can't take him outside. We use the tray that looks like grass to make the indoor/outdoor potty transition easier. |
