Food rotation I know this has been asked before, but I want to get a current opinion... Mike is eating Farmina, he loves it, we love it, no tummy issues, poop quality consistent, body weight ideal. But I feel like it's not enough taste and portion wise for him. Farmina is quite high in protein so daily portion is very small. I want to be able to swtich it up a little, because he is a such a foodie :D We don't have options of freeze dried/raw etc and no ready vitamin/mineral mixes for full time home cooking so options are limited. What would you suggest? 1. Rotate different brands of kibble? 2. Add wet food a few times a week? 3. Add homemade food toppings daily, lets say for dinner? (this would be ideal, but where can I find verified info on ingredients, portion size etc? what can be cooked in batches?) thank you :animal-pa |
Maybe just add wet food. |
Thank you! The only downside is cost.. quality canned food here is approx. 3$ for a small can. According to his size his daily portion would be 1+3/4 of a can (let's say I can swap his kibble dinner with 1 can) so that's pretty pricy for long term. |

Use canned food as a topper, you don't have to replace a whole meal with it if you don't want. We feed Weruva which is super expensive but our local pet store always has BOGO free deals etc so we stock up then. I mix it in with his kibble sometimes and when I do that one can goes a long way. He is 18lbs so feeding him exclusively canned gets very expensive lol but I do some days feed him more canned than dry. It just depends. He would need like almost 2 cans of that. I love it because the formulas I feed are low fat for his pancreatitis, they are made in a human grade facility, it looks like real chicken soup and he does fantastic on it. |
