Runny poop 😔 Hello, I have a 10wk old puppy we got 2wks ago. The breeder was feeding her NutriSouce and provided me a small snack size to bring home. Our area doesn't sell that brand at our local Petco or PetSmart. So we decided to go with Blue Buffalo Life Procection Formula for Puppy. Slowly adding in the new puppy kibbles mixing it with her old food, her stools has been runny. I've tried giving her pumpkin filling she'll poop solid for that time being but as soon as she eats her mix kibble she's back to her runny stools. Should I just change her food back to her original or try another different brand of puppy food? Any advice that could help. TIA! |
We had to go through couples of changes in food over short period of time when Mike was 4-5 months old. Couple of times he had very runny stool for few days and Fortiflora probiotic helped A Lot every time. I gave one full sachet mixed with new food for 2-3 days and then continued with half sachet per day for the rest of the week. When we changed food at young age I changed it over 10 days, starting with literally 2-3 kibbles of new food on the first day. Also I read pumpkin works for some but maybe be making the poop softer for others. Lastly, for a puppy this young I would get your vets advice in case runny stool is a symptom of something else. |

Thank you for the advice. She has her vet appointment schedule but won't be seeing them for another 2wks. 😔 |
Definitely a trip to the Vet. Also, I'm a little leery of Blue Buffalo. So many have had problems. Tried Blue Buffalo with a dachshund I had a few years ago. When he passed gas, you could smell it in the next county! Immediately got him off that onto another dog food. Just heard too many bad things about Blue Buffalo. Just saying..... |
I would keep her on the original food for a few months if poo was fine you should be able to find it on chewy or amazon. Blue Buffalo is not a great food and there are many many complaints about GI issues with them. Also with a puppy if they have diarrhea for to long they can get significantly dehydrated very quickly so you might want to head in for a vet check and some meds to help stop it. |
Thank you all for the quick response. I have her vet appt schedule to be seen Wednesday. |
