Tooth Loss-Can this really work? My 8 yr old Biewer female went for a dental about 1 1/2 - 2 yrs ago and all went well (no extractions, etc). She had another dental today and I could not believe how downhill everything went in such a short period of time. The vet told me that she did very well but about 50% of her teeth are loose under all the tartar that they removed. It is frequently seen in smaller breed dogs and is due to years of an inadequate diet (unfortunately he did not tell me what an adequate diet would be). Anyway, he told me that they have had some success is using Calcium supplements in the diet to strengthen the bone that composed the sockets (which is turn could help will less tooth loss). I am to give her the calcium supplement once a day and to make a follow-up appointment in 2 - 2 1/2 months. Has anyone heard of this or is there a vet or vet tech that is a member of this forum that can chime in with your thoughts? |
Sadly teeth can go down hill that fast. Callie’s have to be done yearly. I haven’t heard about adding calcium to help keep lose teeth. Maybe it’s a new thing I’m not sure. About diet I know my aunt home cooks for her dog and it isn’t balanced and she has lost most of her teeth. |
