Black Stools Every now and then My 6 year old Yorkie does a black well-formed stool, apart from that, he seems fine. What can cause this, is it the first sign of kidney problems? I will probably take him to the vet soon but I can’t even think of it just now as I’ve just broken my arm and lost my other Yorkie to kidney disease a week ago. Thank you. |
I am so sorry for your loss, and your broken arm! |
I too am so very sorry for the loss of your lil baby, and your broken arm but, if you could just take a stool sample to your vet they can tell if there's anything going on. When you're able to get around better your pup may not have black stools, I would def. drop off a sample of just the stool, you don't have to bring your pup with you, just the stool. |

Thanks for all your posts. Lucy brought so much happiness, she was a perfect little girl, how I wish she could’ve lived a lot longer. Good idea about dropping off the poop at the vet’s. Prevention is better than cure though, so if all goes well tomorrow, I will get someone to drive me up to the vet’s to get him checked over including blood tests. I will also take some of his poop along. I don’t want to delay it and I will stop worrying about him hopefully. |
Do you have anyone else in your household who feeds your Yorkie? I recently worried about something similar, only to find out my husband was occasionally giving Fabian frozen blueberries as a treat! |
Yes, I do have a husband (very ill at the moment unfortunately) but he always asks me before he gives Jake something, otherwise he’d give him a lot of forbidden dog food! |
First of all, I am so very sorry for the loss of your precious little Lucy - losing a furbaby really rips a hole in your heart. It sounds like you are really loaded down with your broken arm and sick hubby. Sending healing  and :hands: in your way. I don't have any ideas about Jake's black poos. I agree with Matese and Nanajoy - dropping off a fresh poop sample would be a good idea and a less stressful option for you and your family. If your vet feels like he/she needs to see Jake, then you can arrange to take him in. |

Hello and thanks again for all your kind thoughts and advice. I managed to get Jake to the vet along with a sample of his poop! I’m very happy to say that all his blood test results were normal. He’s resting now as he thought he was going out on a walk and didn’t appreciate going to the vet now and being poked with a needle, poor thing:-) |
So glad to hear that Jake is well. Now to get you and hubby 100% |
Yes! We’ve been going through a rough patch these past few months but we have to be patient I guess, it’s going to take some more time, but it was such a relief to know Jake is ok. Thanks again everyone. |

I had to lol because I have went through this often when I had my girls, because I hardly took them in the car when I moved from NY to Pa. the only time they went in the car was to the groomer or the vet which needless to say they hated these places. I was working at this time but week ends I would take them if only to the bank so they wouldn't think every time they went in the car it was to get tortured . With Cody I take him in the car just to go to the bank. I have cluster mail boxes, no door to door mail delivery, the mail boxes are at the entrance of the community so I have to drive to collect my mail, so I even take him to get my mail. I take him to as many places dogs are allowed, so when it's vet time he is shocked to see where he is lol. Take care your yourself now, good that at least you have peace of mind knowing Jake is in good health. And don't be a stranger on YT, you are missed ;) |
Thanks matese for your nice post. You’re much better than me taking your dogs out. We moved house 18 months ago and we just let ourselves become too busy to take Lucy and Jake out on walks. The move was exhausting and we’ve still got unpacked boxes. Before we moved I would take them out for a walk every second day but the area was nice and quiet with a lovely park at a walking distance. Where we live now it’s busy, noisy and lots of cars everywhere. The dogs mostly got their exercise running up and down the stairs and playing on the roof. The rooves here are flat and used for entertainment, relaxing, for roof gardens or simply to hang out the laundry! We took Jake out on Sunday but at the vet’s he simply refused to move his tiny legs when our name was called for him to get examined! |
