Losing weight So Ollie turned a year old in January. Well 4 weeks ago Ollie went in for a vaccine and was 11.6 pounds. He is skinny but not like sickly skinny. He is a picky eater doesn’t like chicken and some stuff. Well we free feed and he picks a little here and there especially if we are playing. Well today he went in for the second part of the vaccine and he was down a full pound to 10.6 pounds. We just saw the tech today and she listened to his heart and everything and said to just keep an eye on it. Should I be concerned? Should I be trying like to get him to eat more with like canned food or something? Besides Callie with her health issue and when her Cushings made her drop several pounds when she was overweight I haven’t had to deal with weight loss issues. He still is a playful pup nothing has changed with that. |
I'm wondering if maybe I should start giving him like a multivitamin? |
Maybe ask for a blood panel & fecal for worms just to be sure nothing has cropped up and you could catch it early. Is his pee pale yellow or dark? Might try to check his urine somehow if he potties outside. A whole pound in that short of a time sounds like worms. |

Thumper and Bella fluctuate between a pound here or there each time I bring them to the vet. Sometimes it is up and sometimes it is down. However, I do not free feed as Thumper would eat the entire bowl if I left it out :) If he is in the normal healthy range I wouldn't worry too much and just keep an eye on it. You might want to buy a scale yourself so you can weigh him periodically to make sure he is not losing too much weight. I did that when I had Boomer and he was sick. I just bought a baby scale off amazon and it worked. |
Can you add some canned/moist a couple times a day...mixed in with kibble? |

Taylor, has Ollie grown in height or length that would count for a loss in weight. |

Since I weigh myself every day I was looking at the digital ones with pounds and ounces for when I weigh me then weigh me and Cody, ounces matter to me. I will still have him weighed at the vet monthly when he gets his allergy shot but, there were a few times I forgot to ask or cos he's a Mr. Cujo they want him out ASAP lol and he doesn't get weighed. At least I'll have a scale that shows ounces at home. I hope Mr. Ollie continues to eat the new food, bad to the bone lil boy lol. |

I found a digital scale at WalMart that gives pounds and ounces. |
