Seizure??Maybe...? Baxter has been having these random episodes. He will lock up and shake. I console him immediately and someone runs for the Karo syrup. I rub the Karo on his gums if I can't get his mouth to open. This usually only lasts a couple of minutes, but seems like a lifetime. He has been to the vet. The vet says all of his numbers are perfect and it isn't anything with liver or kidneys. He has had a total of 4 of them with 3 being in the past 6 months. The only thing that I have noticed differently is that he is very picky about his food. I am having to actually take breaks to ensure that he is eating. Baxter is 3 years old and weighs 7lbs. He is super active and doesn't act like anything is wrong at all. Any help or advice on what to do is greatly appreciated. I love my little guy so very much and these are super scary when they happen. :( |
So sorry to hear something is wrong. The best thing to do is get these episodes on video and show them to a vet. It sounds like seizures to me and there are so many meds that could be given for this. You definitely don't want these seizures to progress... |
These sort of sound exactly like what we are experiencing with Gryffin - See my latest post on Live Shunt vs. Hypoglycemia. Gryffin has had 6 episodes like this--2 last year and 4 this year. He freezes up and shakes, doesn't want to move, but when he does, he sort of walks like he's drunk with poor coordination of hind legs. Is that the same thing you are seeing? Are you noticing it at certain times--i.e., closely following a meal? We're going through the same thing and I hope it's nothing major. |
Yes! Usually he hasn't eaten though. Once I put the Karo on his gums (because his jaw is locked) it lets up. I will pop over and read your post too. I am just confused because I took him to the vet and his blood work was all fine. Nothing showed out of the ordinary and they specifically checked his kidney and liver numbers. |
Wylie's Mom-I had not even thought about recording when it happened. I will try and remember if there is a next time....fingers crossed there won't be. |
How scary for both of you! I hope that you soon have an answer, and treatment which will resolve that cute little one's problems. Hang in there Baxter! |
When I think about each one they are all excitement triggered. They have all happened either when he was worked up about something or right after he hurt himself (playing to rough with a toy or something similar). I wonder if that could be the cause and why the sugar helps him get back to normal?? Would also explain why his blood work was all normal. |

I completely agree which is why I took him to the vet for blood work. It all came back fine. I can attach it in here if you guys would like to look at the numbers. I was told if they got more frequent to bring him back in. I was looking for someone who has had similar issues. Maybe to share with his vet as well. |
