Skin allergies My dog has severe skin allergies. I think he is allergic to life! What is the best shampoo and food to use? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. I hate to see him so miserable. He is currently taking apoquel and was just put on prednisone because his rash is so bad. |
Have you tried cytopoint? It’s an allergy shot you might want to look into. Also make sure they keep a good eye on it so it doesn’t become a skin infection. My vet recommends Douxo shampoo. Food allergies are rare so it’s probably more environmental. |
If allergies are this severe while on apoquel - then I'd definitely try Cytopoint, and then Atopica bc each of them works differently on the immune system. I agree w/ Taylor - Duoxo is good. |
Cytopoint is amazing!! I have 3 pups on it and so far none of them has had to have them more frequently than every 2 months. One has not had one in 5 months now so we are thinking it was probably seasonal. It is great that you can just go when the symptoms start because it starts acting almost immediately. No side effects....so much better than Atopica, Apoquel and prednisone! |
He has been getting a kenalog injection almost monthly for the last few months. It is the only thing that gives him any kind of relief. I have never heard of cytopoint, but I will ask the vet when I take him back in 3 weeks. They also switched his food to hills z/d prescription diet. Hopefully that will help. |

Not saying he isn't allergic to food...but more likely not. As SOON as he starts itching if you get that shot you will prevent skin infections and also give him almost immediate relief. I have found that by the same evening or the next morning they are fine. The shot is around $35 - $40 ... well worth it!! |

Hey All!! I'm new to this group and have a 3 year old Yorkie, Bella (my life & world). Within the last year, she has started having issues with her paws...licks them constantly to the point where they start to bleed. Vet has put her on 2 rounds of Clamavox & Prednisolone but I'm very weary of this medicine after researching it. Vet said no more chicken or beef so she only eats salmon or fish flavored food. He is not sure if its seasonal or environmental so we are just taking it one day at a time. She hates to walk in the wet grass in the mornings when going out to potty. I know her paws hurt and I just don't like to see her so sad. Any other Yorkie parents out there had any issues like this with your babies??? |

Bax has had a rough go of Spring this year as well. Normally if I keep him groomed he is fine. Seems he is allergic to the grass or whatever environmental. I would prefer doing something more natural to help him get through his. Has anyone had any luck with anything? I was researching Zesty Paws AllerImmune Bites. Also, the wipes for when he comes in from being outside. :aimeeyork |

Cytopoint works like magic! Just chiming in that Cytopoint has been a miracle cure for my Yorkie's allergies. She's highly allergic to 24 different environmental allergens, including ragweed, dandelions, dust, wool, and cats! We switched her from Apoquel to Cytopoint shots and her itching lessened within a week. At first, she needed the shot every four weeks, but now she can go 6 or 7 weeks between shots. The cost is about $50 per shot, but we are lucky to have pet health insurance with www.HealthyPaws.com, and they pay about $40 per shot after our annual deductible. My Yorkie, Boo, can now live life without constant itching and bald spots. :) |
