Please help! I am so scared finding foreign poo in my yard! Parvo? Hello everyone, I am a new member and I have 9 week puppy named Millie. For the last week I have been taking her to a designated spot in my yard to potty. My yard is not fenced but it faces the ocean, very few strangers walk along the beach in my area, but sometimes the neighbors or people in the nearby village would walk their dogs in the more popular area down the road. Today my husband took Millie out in the back and he allowed her to go potty, he didn't remember there being poo there in the back but when i went out later there was a strange poop laying in the sand and now i am really scared. I asked my husband if it was millie's poo but he said he throws away all her poo after she goes potty in the backyard. I had to go back out there and remove it then sanitized the sand area, now i am terrified that millie might have sniffed it and developed Parvovirus. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow. Can someone help me? I am so scared that she might have Parvo? What are the chances? I really didn't think any strange dog would go back there since i am so far away from civilization but apparently someone did take their dog there and now i am so traumatized that my baby will get hurt. =[ Please help =[ |
At 9 weeks old your puppy should not be out doors. Your puppy must have all her vaccines before she is allowed to set her little paws on outside soil, sand, grass. Although many ppl may not walk in your area you have stray dogs, cats or wild animals, bird poop, squirrels, other rodents all carry disease. You have to be very careful with all dogs that are not fully vaccinated. I cannot say what the chances are that your little girl was in contact with parvo, that is a question to ask your vet. |
Hi there. Parvo is a horrible, horrible disease. Little girl Dutch's vet told us the virus lives for a long, long, long time on most surfaces. He was adamant that Dutch not walk on outdoor surfaces--especially concrete--until she had the okay from him. She got the okay at, give or take, 18 weeks. Just shy of that date, he did give us the okay for her to take a spin in our back yard. We tried that once but decided we wouldn't forgive ourselves if anything bad happened. So, we waited it out. Given how curious these little ones are, I'm glad we made that decision. You might ask your vet--his/her mileage may vary. --KatysMom |
I’m going to be honest with you it’s not very likely unless there has been a terrible parvovirus outbreak in your area. So many people take their puppies to pet stores and outside before all of their shots and they never get sick. I understand that when you are trying to outside train a puppy waiting until they have all their shots it’s just not reasonable or doable. I would move her potty spot up closer to your house. You might could also buy a outside exercise pen to keep her potty spot from other animals. You don’t need to rush her to the vet unless she starts showing symptoms. |
Can someone mind telling me why my posts are locked and need to be reviewed by a moderator? =[ |
