Another Success Story: Pumpkin for Doggie Diarrhea
Fabian has had soft stool for nearly a week. We took him to a vet right away (after one day). They prescribed two meds (Fortiflora and something to coat his throat/stomach) and a chicken and rice diet, none of which seemed to work.
After reading more than a decades' worth of posts here about the benefits of pureed pumpkin, we tried it.
We were wary about doing so, as he'd never eaten it before and we weren't sure about introducing a new food on top of everything else. We also read the label ***extremely*** closely to make sure that the ***only*** ingredient was pumpkin and that there were no additives, preservatives, or sweeteners added. He's ten pounds and we gave him about 2Tbsp.
After the first day, his poops are back to normal. It may have been a cumulative effect, but I think the pumpkin made the difference. We've also cut back to 1Tbsp for a few days while continuing the Fortiflora. |
