Question about home cooking for small yorkie Hi, I have a 1.7 kg Yorkie (3.7 lb). I prefer using kilograms but I think everybody here prefers pounds. She is a picky eater and she just loves home made cooking. Since our major vet comes once a week I see two vets. One of them says I should give grain. The other one says no. If any of you cook, what is the healthiest proportion? And would you suggest a good recipe? Thank you:animal36 |
If you home cook you really need to try and maybe do an online or phone consult with a vet nutritionist. You can't just cook a meal and it be balanced for dogs there are vitamins that are necessary. |

I don't really like grains for dogs bc of potential allergy and GI-tract inflammation. Dogs don't produce amylase etc, so digesting grains is not as simple as it is for us...and that can cause issues. Homecooking is awesome bc it's not so processed - but - you truly do need to be very, very careful feeding it to puppies bc they are still developing - and if you don't know how to properly balance it, the deficiencies can really cause issues for their development. A lot of people use www.balanceit.com |
