Anal gland issues Does anyone have to get their pups anal glands emptied on like a regular schedule? Penny seems to have that issue. After a few months she starts to act weird and then starts leaking a little anal fluid so we take her to the vet and they check her anal glands and they aren't like overly full or infected or anything but after they empty them shes great again. It's so weird. I am capable of emptying them but I HATE it so much I would rather pay someone else to do it. So just wondering if anyone else had anal glad issues like that? |
I had a cocker spaniel once that had the issue but my yorkies never did . |
Hi Taylor, Katy never had a medical issue related to her glands but throughout the last year of her life, I had the vet's office regularly check them. If the vet found them to be overly full, I had them cleared. Katy's glands never leaked and I didn't consider having them checked and sometimes cleared to be an issue. I much preferred to have the vet's office clear her glands than to put her through a groomer's usual partial effort. Sorry I can't be of more help. --KatysMom |

I have never had this issue before with any of the others. Maybe it’s just a fluke. She gets probiotic every night so i have been trying that. |
Sophie needed hers done every 5 weeks. She was fine for the first 4 years of her life but ended up with an anal gland infection and after that she needed them done regularly. |
Anals I find my boy needs anals emptied at the vet every six weeks or so or he scoots, does not leak though. The groomers do not do a good job so I have the vet do it. I gather groomers do it from the outside but the vet from the inside. Ugh! |

Penny just turned 2 like this month so I wonder if it is just going to be an issue with her. They were full but not like bad full and she is acting much better. I told the tech I know I can do this but I just don't want to yet. She was willing to walk me through it to make sure I still know how but I just really don't feel that comfortable doing it. |
I forget what she's eating -- is it hydrolyzed protein...? If yes, can you change it? Have you added fiber - not pumpkin. I mean Benefiber..? She may really benefit from it. Does she need more fat in her diet - ie fish oil? |
