Stone in urethera Vet took an X-ray today to check on Max’s leg. Low and behold the X-ray showed a stone in his urethera. Max shows no sign of difficulty in urination and has no urinary infection. Vet said to return in 6 weeks for another X-ray. She said to start him on the prescription urinary formula dog food. Do these stones in the urethera ever pass? Our other yorkie had bladder stones that required surgery. I just lost my beloved Jamison three weeks ago, now this. Friday is my brother-in-laws funeral. I just want to go and hide. Gew |

I'm so sorry about what you're going through, I never understand why sometimes the universe seems to throw everything its got at us :(. So the vet doesn't think these are causing pain? |

Please send good wishes to my little man. The specialist fit him in today at four so after my brother-in-law’s funeral today, it will be a mad dash home to pick him up and get there. They warned me to take him there immediately should he not be able to urinate, but so far he is able to. Three days ago I thought one of his legs that had luxating patella surgery last year was the problem because he was licking and licking, the X-ray showed the legs to be fine, but voila , the stone in his urethra. My poor Max came last year Lyme positive. Three series of doxycycline and kidney analysis later he is below 30, so okay. Twelve teeth had to be removed. He had double luxating patella surgery a month after adoption. Now this. My poor little boy. Here goes. Gew |

Just returned from specialist. Max is scheduled for a PPC on July 5th at 9:00am. It is the most minimally invasive procedure for a dog with a stone in the urethra. We have to watch carefully till then. Thanks for the good wishes sent this way. Gew |

Yes. Yesterday we brought Max after the funeral to Red Bank and the surgeon said he felt that it was a calcium oxilate stone in his urethra. However, due to his small size, he thought that a PCCL would be best and currently that is done only by one vet at the Tinton Falls location ( the Red Bank mother ship). He called and got us an appointment for 9:00 am on July 5th. If Stacy Burdock agrees then ( internal medicine, interventional radiologist and Medical Director and Chief of Staff) , she will after discussion with us preform the procedure. Until then, we have to watch him closely. Please send him your prayers. He is a real doll who has had such a hard life. Gew |
Cost of removal of stone from urethera Just thought that the cost of removal of stone from urethera might be of interest should any other Yorkie might need it. I don’t know what my bill will be but here are the estimates based on the type of procedure needed. PCCL. 3300-3600 VUH. 1800 Laser lithotripsy. 3500. They also warn that dogs can and often do develop more stones. Tomorrow is our big day. Gew |

Max had his PCCL SURGERY today. We just got him home about an hour ago and he is zonked. Poor baby looks dazed. They said he did very well. The stone in the urethra was removed and the bladder explored. He is on restriction for three weeks. Super limited for three days at which time there may be blood in the urine and straining. Here’s hoping. They won’t guarantee he won’t need it again. He has to have X-rays twice a year for life. Imagine the size diamond I could have gotten for the $4600.00 his one stone cost. However, there is no limit I would place on the value of Max. I do wonder how I can do this if it happens often. But then what choice does anyone have in this situation? Seriously, what if something comes up an owner can not afford? Gew |
