Food toppers Hey guys, I remember you guys saying to try giving my dog liver based treats because apparently they loved it. Well they do, and I want to find some food toppers for alternatives to my little ones food. She doesn't like eating same old thing. Is it okay to give dogs a small amount of limited ingredient wet cat food with her food? The ones that have more livers than others? Of course I only mean as a topping. If not do you guys have any good topping ideas that dogs can't resist? |
Sojos and other brands make toppers. Adding a small amount of cat food will not likely cause issues, although guaranteed analysis will be different from dog foods. Compare labels of cat/dog food and you'll be able to see the differences and make a better assessment. |
Just curious on why you’d give cat food vs dog food ? As far as food toppers , your babies like livers , pick some up from the grocery make a batch yourself and then top that way . A lil bit will probably go a long way and would be a nice treat . |

As for liver at the store, can it be given raw? I mean cooked will reduce all those important nutrients. I don't know where they sell livers but I never see them for sale... All I see close to liver is liverwurst and not sure that's good for them. Btw on a side note, can I give my dogs boiled store bought fish and fish skins 2x a week or so? I want her to get a variety. I feel one of the pleasures in life that I personally have is being able to eat a variety of foods. I could see a dog being depressed by eating same thing in and out without much variety. |

About 3 whole ones a week? They also had veal and beef livers. Except chicken liver came in a container with blood. Oh my god once I cooked it I had to keep a distance. The stench was enough to make me throw up. I guess I have always had a sensitive nose. Maggie was hesitant at first but I gave some of the soupy bits on top of kibble with boiled brocolli bits. I had to hand feed her one to get her to understand. She's always been hesitant about food. Only eats new stuff if hand fed first or if she's seen me eat it. But no way in hell am I going to eat that.... :sickie::sickie::sickie: Reminds me of a quote from a cartoon I loved to watch when I was a child "the things I do for love..." :biewergirl::longyorkie: |
