Spayed ? Yes or no? What is the benefit of getting my 4.4 lb Yorkie spayed? Did any one ever decline the operation and regret it? She will be 7 years old on June 12 . I try to avoid it all these years. The vet swears by it saying that she will be sickened by her ovaries eventually maybe. I just want diva to have the best dog life. I will get her teeth cleaned and spayed in 1 shot deal. For about $500 the most. I’m so nervous. Did anyone get there fur baby spayed and how was the healing process? Do you have any tip for me to make the process easier? |
I would absolutely get her spayed asap! With females, spaying is not just about over population in preventing more puppies -- it's really about preventing cancer down the line. And your price is amazing for also including a dental. The healing process is usually very good. Their first night can be tough due to anesthesia in their systems and some pain. MAKE SURE you go home with pain meds AND a plan for if those pain meds are not providing enough relief (ie, what are you to do then). Get a onesie for afterward to prevent access to the stitches. |
I almost lost my small Maltese puppy because she was not spayed. She was still a pup but developed an infection of the uterus during her first heat cycle. Fortunately we got her to the vet in time and her life was saved. This type of infection can occur at any age during the heat cycle. You girl is continually going through hormonal cycles for no reason and those hormones can eventually cause mighty problems for her. The sooner you do it the better. Go to a vet that has experience with small animals and that you trust and your little girl will be fine. |
There are many risks with not spaying. Every heat their risk for mammary tumors goes up as well as their risk for poymentra which can kill them. It’s much healthier for them to be spayed. |
I have a friend who’s dog has lived a good life . At 13 she got a mammary tumor , she ended up having it removed and dog was fine . My friend hated seeing her dog go through it so she was very regretful of not spaying at all. Your baby is 7 so every heat cycle the risk goes up. Cost seems reasonable for the teeth and spay . Healing is quick and shouldn’t be too bad for your baby. |
Thank you all so much ! If I had any doubts I don’t now .. I definitely feel more confident in myself making the right choice now. I scheduled her for operation July 19. I will respond back on how it went. |

My first two yorkies I did not have spayed, one got mammary tumor then Pyometra, her uterus erupted sending puss throughout her body, for 9 days I watched her dying she was 13 yo. 6 months later my 2nd girl got Pyometra that was caught right away, but died 6 months later. All my girls after that was spayed. Please spay your little girl. |

Today was the big day... I feel so horrible. She is shaky. Back legs move funny. I don’t like the way the cut looks and she just looks so out of it.. I feel like it’s all my fault.. I’m so sorry.. she looks like she just can’t get comfortable but won’t move either. They gave me 6 pills for pain .. I wish she can talk how I supposed to know if she is in pain or not .. arrrggghhh .. |

I'm sending you and your sweetie virtual hugs. Did the vet/surgeon have feedback/reporting for you about how she came through the procedure? If you haven't already, would imagine you can call their office to express concern that she is shaking. Such a call might rule out that she is having a reaction to anything. I'm sure having you there is a comfort to her...and likewise. Hope you reassure yourself that you made a decision based on what is really best for her. Thank you for being such a good, caring pet mama. --KatysMom |
I am so glad that she came through the procedure safely and is home with you now. Here's hoping that she has a speedy, problem-free recovery! |
It may hurt you seeing her feeling so badly, but believe me, you added years to her life with you. Spaying is done before puppies first heat, usually 6 months old, they spring right back in a day to their crazy lil selves, your baby is 7 years old, she may need a day or two to get back to her bad lil self. Call your vet about the shaking and other symptoms she is showing, you will have piece of mind making that call. |
They vet says that she will shake up until 12 hours after the procedure. And as the hrs go by it seems like the shaking is subsiding . Now she just looks drowsy. Which the vet said she do need 2 days to move around again as normal. I’m watching her like a tv. And I fell asleep a bit too. I got her a wee wee pad because I don’t even want her out side today or tomorrow. She had her dental cleaning done and one baby tooth removed and I must say her teeth looks brand new. |
