Question on Molly’s droopy ear She’s 4 1/2 months old and one ear just dropped down again. It was like that till about a month ago and I kept trimming off more and more hair and it popped up. So it was up for a month at least. Now I’m snipping snipping at it to get it back up. It will drive me crazy seeing one up and one down. I taped it and 10 minutes later she had it off but the ear went up for about 10 minutes. Question is since it was up what’s the likelihood it will be down for good? Any tips to get it back up...massaged it, folded it backwards..taped it. Only been 2 days but working to get it back up. |

Shave the ears, hair is weight, what you want to do is keep weight off the ear / ears. If you don't want to shave the ear then cut the hair off it, the less hair, the less weight. Teething can also play a big part of ears not standing up. |

There is a saying ... first do no harm. While there are many online articles and word-of-mouth advisors, it won't seem hard to tape the pups ears. BUT, you may damage actually the ear/ears in the process. Based on a personal experience, PLEASE, PLEASE be careful--especially if the ears have been erect for some time. There are veterinarian specialists who can advise you more specifically. |
Bones ear fell at around 5 months and popped back up in a few weeks. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. |
The groomer shaved them because that one was down before and once I snipped away a whole bunch of fur it popped up. For just a month. She just did it again a few days ago and it’s still down. I was concerned because it sounds if it’s not up by 6 months it won’t be up. Thought they didn’t start teething till 6 months so it couldn’t be teething could it. That one has a crease right where it flops down and the other doesn’t have that. Maybe if it doesn’t go up the groomer can keep that ear long so it looks like it’s standing up. :) When one of Max’s ear drops down out comes the tiny scissors or a call to the groomer. You would think if they are up they would stay that way. |

Groomer was here again today and she went as far down as possible. We both agree one of Molly’s ears has a crease down low and that’s where she want to drop it at. If she hears something they both go up. So it might be she prefers that one down. Hope it goes up but sounds like after teething it might go back up. Anytime those sharp baby teeth want to fall out I’m good! |

Hi Cats307, Awwww... what a sweetie!!!! I called it--cute as a button. I have a yorkie ear fetish. Were I in your shoes (I'm not), would find a specialist to look at the cartilage at the "crease" you see. In the mean time, would keep the upper part of the ear hair shaved (both ears) and love that little one over and over!!! |
2 Attachment(s) When I rescued Penny at 8 months she had one ear up and one ear down. After a few weeks the one standing fell down and I'm not really sure why but now she just has floppy ears. Joey is my only one with standing ears and they are huge. I rescued him at 9 weeks and he was on diet adult food and after a week of being on a puppy food his ears went up and they never fell for teething or anything. I'm not a huge fan of taping I figure what God intends will happen lol. |
