Probiotics Does anyone give or has anyone given their Yorkie probiotics? |
Yes. Why? |
Yes, many times. |
Abby was just started on it and wondered if diarrhea is worse before it gets better. |
The probiotic we use is FortiFlora. Deuce usually has a nicely formed stool when on it. He has a very sensitive colon! |

Diahrrea in my Yorkie I'm wondering if any of your Yorkies have had ongoing diarrhea? This is the first time she has had problems for over a week. I picked her up from a dog sitter and the next day it started.....liquid, bloody diarrhea. The Vet gave her some injections and meds to take home....an antiobiotic and some Kaopectic type paste. She has been on her meds and has only eaten boiled chicken with rice, but still not having normal stool. It is somewhat formed now, but yellowish in color and not her normal looking stool.. Back to the Vet for more injections and still the same. He tested her blood for pancreatitis which came back only slightly elevated. She has a very inflamed looking rectum and drags her butt a lot. Vet checked her anal glands and they are normal. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Has anyone had similar experiences? Beverly |

I'm so sorry your little one is struggling with diarrhea. I assume you did have the vet examine a stool sample, right? What worm treatment is your sweetie taking? Was that treatment up to date at the time all this began? A couple of articles that may be helpful. See PetMD by Jessica Volgelsand, DVM, "What Should My Dog's Pool Look Like?" This article, as well as others on the subject, indicate that yellowish stools MAY indicate issues with the "pancreas, liver or gallbladder." Our two-year-old parti, Tyrone, has had repeated bouts of colitis since he was a baby. It is especially triggered by travel, but any stress or change in patterns can trigger an event. Our vet handles it with combined meds and probiotics when he has an attack, but we recently (6 weeks ago) started him on a lunchtime probiotic treat. We have had a ton of workmen on site during the last ten days, and I am thrilled to say that we have not had a single problem! We got them at Amazon...VetriScience Laboratories Probiotic Everyday for Dogs, Digestive Health Supplement. We also use their calming treats with all three of the boys when they need a little help during travel situations, thunder storms, etc. |

Whenever we had bouts of diarrhea first we did a round of antibiotics and check for parasites. Usually within 2 days there was improvement. |
