ears up or down?
 
How many of you know of when puppies ears will go up to stay up? At what age? we have puppies that are 6 wks old today, and they're ears aren't all the way up yet. Is that usual? I know with my other litters I've had for the past 3 years, their ears didn't go up much until around 6 months old, but different parents. When we got Mia, the mom to this litter, she was around 9 wks old or so, and her ears were straight up. That's what I'm hoping these puppies ears will be like. Anyone out there that can give me a bit advice on that? I don't want to go to any extremes what so ever on cutting them or having a vet cut them or taping them up. kwim? Anyways, thanks to whoever can give me some input on this. God bless, Heather

My experience with Stewie was that his ears were up until he got his rabies shot. They were STRAIGHT up and adorable. Now they flop 90% of the time. I think there are some traumatic circumstances that could make them go down and stay down forever.

Bailey's were 1 one, 1 down, then they would switch back and forth, then one day WaLA,, they were both up, he was between 6-7 months when that happened.

I got Macey at around 14 weeks and her ears were up, and remained up.

Here is a pic of one of the puppies. Isn't he so cute! He's about 1.5 lbs. His name is Kirby and going to Kansas City in 2 wks. Gonna miss him badly!

He is a little sweetie. His ears look heavy . Sometimes heavy ears don't go up. I know you are going to miss him when he leaves.

Ears down
 
My Pebbles is almost 2 years old and her ears never went up :animal36 and the lady that sold her to me actually told me that her ears were too big and that they wouldn't go up, but the moment I saw her I fell in love with her and I thought she looked absolutely adorable with her ears down, they look so cute like that, I think :p

Missy's ears went up at about 3 months.

Have the tips of the ears been trimmed so they aren't so heavy?

Cali's ears have always been up. I keep the hair of the top 3rd of her ears

I don't think your Yorkie's ears will go down, because, for what I know, Yorkies' ears are supposed to be up, i.e. Pebbles' ears where too big and wouldn't go up because of the weight, but I think that if your baby's ears are up that means they are the right size so they won't go down :(

I'm not sure when they are 'supposed' to go up but my Harleys ears are pretty mucho big-o and his were floppy until he was about 6 months old when I had him groomed and they cut the hair off his ears and BAM! They were up for good! lol I actually liked them better floppy though! But my fav was when only his left stood up and the other was all floppy! hehe

I guess because I was told that Pebbles' ears wouldn't go up because of their size I never tried to get them up, but I do like them better down as well, so ... I am happy with her ears down, but when puppies have 1 up and 1 down they look adorable :p

I got Oliver when he was 4 months and his ear were down. Now he is 6 mos and a few days ago they just went up and have stayed up.

We got Kammie for Christmas and she is now 10 weeks. Her ears seem big and we tried to tape them but they looked too far apart too? We really don't mind either way. She is beautiful! :aimeeyork

Big & Floppy
 
Spikey's ears were down until he was 7 months old and then just the left ear stood up. Now, at 1 year and 4 months, both are down. Plus his ears are big and floppy.

Had a breeder once tell me that she feeds two chicken livers, boiled, once a day to her yorkie pups and the extra protein helps the ears stand. Don't know how true that is but she swears by it. Never seen one of her pups without erect ears around 12-14 weeks. Could just be coincidence???
