Jackson's dental tomorrow I'm starting to get nervous and I know I shouldn't. But Jackson's having his dental cleaning tomorrow morning. He is 9, healthy (innocent heart murmur that I got checked first through an echo - no problems) and he had pre-op bloodwork. I still get nervous. I mostly hate dropping him off because he HATES vets and is so anxious, moreso when I leave. My comfort lies in that they are giving him drugs to calm him and then obviously sedate him so he won't remember and they only have 2 dentals (including Jackson's) tomorrow so he won't be sitting around waiting for a long time. But please send good vibes my way that everything goes smoothly! He hasn't had a dental since he was around 5, I think. |
I will keep him in my prayers. |
Strong and positive vibes on the way Brit! Just made Cali’s dental appointment for the 21st today. I just can’t leave her so I camp out at the office while she is under. I get the first appointment so she is the first one out! They do tell me I have to sit in the car if I feel the need to drink:p Then someone will drive us home! Maybe they should sedate me:eek: |
Positive thoughts going out for Jackson. |
Good and positive thoughts coming Jackson's way. |

Good luck to Cali also! You know it's the best for them but it's still always so nerve wrecking! |
I completely understand your nervousness, TRUST!!! He will do just great though! Bring along a donut bed or a blankie to soothe him (and you!). I'll be sending lots of good thoughts. Please keep us posted!! |
Hoping Jackson did well and did not have to lose any teeth. |
Our positive thoughts are with Jackson! This reminds me that I have to schedule an appointment to clean my Zuzi's teeth as well. Hope you and Jackson do well on the visit. let us know how did it go. I need to prepare myself as well for the visit. |
wondering about Jackson hoping all went well |
Sorry, YT was down when I was trying to update last night. They ended up pulled SIX teeth. I️ wasn’t expecting that. She said it sounds like a lot but for a little dog it’s not really and he still has his main teeth. They were just the 6 lower incisors. She said the bone was just not very strong -- the teeth were hanging on by a thread anyway once she scraped all the plaque off them. They do x-rays first so they could see. We are starting him on a supplement to help support bone for the future but she said the rest of his mouth didn't look too bad. His canine teeth were all strong and his back teeth. They didn’t even look THAT bad to me but I guess they got pretty bad ... yikes. This solidified that it was worth it to do though even if it caused him and I️ all this anxiety. And I’m sure he’s going to feel better. This is my fault from slacking - I had basically stopped brushing (or doing anything extra- besides some chews like dentastix here and again which probably barely do anything) over a year ago because I got lazy. Amazing how quickly the plaque etc formed. :\ But he's fine, he was great when under anesthesia they said (he just fought it so hard... they said he took so long to go down because he fought the medicine so hard!) but his heart rate, blood pressure, etc, were all good. He was insanely whiny all night once I brought him home (I dropped off at 830am and picked up around 5pm) and I do recall that from the last time he was under. He was like staring at the wall and totally stoned LOL!! He woke up this morning still making a few moans and groans so I did give him 1/2 Tramadol. He seems to be 90% back to himself though! |
Here's all the stuff I bought so I can keep up to the best of my abilities here on out: Vetriscience Perio Support - used this before, unsure if it makes a huge difference but the vet recommended it to sprinkle over his food. He loves the taste too so it works as a great topper. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Petsmile Toothpaste - we usually use CET but I saw this one recommended on here a few times and its the only toothpaste that is VOHC approved and doesn't technically need to be 'brushed' to work. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 HealthyMouth gel (also VOHC approved and have used before with great success... when I ran out is when I noticed his teeth going downhill. I'll likely purchase the water addtive too, just couldn't afford both at once, it's not cheap!): DOG: Essential Healthymouth Topical Gel - 2oz Jar |
Glad all is good and Jackson is getting back to normal! |
