Anyone using Healthy Mouth? I know it is VOHC approved, i am wondering if anyone is using and what your results aware. I put it in Cali’s water. Can’t say it has dramatically changed her oral care, however, it definitely has not made it worse. She has lost so many teeth over the years and I am hyper about her daily brushing with PetSmile and oral care. She is now getting dental vet cleaning every 6 months, instead of every year, in hopes of no more teeth loss. I know a lot of it is genetics but we are putting up a good fight, I hope! Would really like to hear from other about their experience. Healthy Mouth is not cheap :D Thanks. |
What is this healthy mouth you speak of and does it mean I don't have to brush Duchess's teeth?:p She hates getting her teeth brushed. |
The healthy mouth goes in the water she drinks. The Petsmile tooth paste she loves and on the days I don’t have time to brush I just rub it on her tehe just licks it off my fingers. She doesn’t Mind the brushing because she loves the PetSmile toothpaste. If you pup doesn’t like brushing I would definitely consider the PetSmile tooth paste. The healthy mouthsupposedly helps too |
I use Tartar Shield, which was recommended by my vet, but looking at your Healthy Mouth online, I think I much prefer those ingredients -- all natural stuff! I'm gonna try some. I agree -- I can't really tell if it's doing any good, but I'll do anything to protect their teeth at this stage. Sounds like we're on a similar path with Yorkie dental care. I've brushed most days since puppyhood but they still have lost way too many teeth. My 13-year-old did great for most of his life. First recommended cleaning was at 6 years old and second around 10. But he lost about 13 teeth during his last cleaning, and I'm no longer bragging about the success I've had brushing. My 8 year old, sadly, is even worse. She's had about 5 cleanings in her life, and each one has resulted in tooth loss. At 5 1/2 pounds, she's about half the size of my other and her tiny little teeth need lots of attention. I use a finger brush and a chicken-flavored toothpaste they love. YT member Sugarmamma conditioned her Yorkies to tolerate an electric toothbrush -- and she's had amazing results with their teeth. Mine run and hide when I turn on the Sonicare. Good luck! |
I've used the gel in the past with good results. Jackson is getting his teeth cleaned November 8th and I'm purchasing HealthyMouth again to keep up with his teeth better again from here on out. I've been very lazy the past two years with his teeth and it shows... when I was brushing at least every other night and using the gel, his teeth stayed decent. I think I'm going to get the water additive and the gel and use both. It's VOHC approved and had extensive trials so I really trust that the stuff actually works if used correctly. |
Thanks, I use the water additive but have not used the gel. I have used the PetSmile instead - brush with it and just give it to her off of my fingers. I will take a new look at the gel though. It just seems to be a constant fight to keep her teeth. She is now getting dentals ever 6 months to see if that helps with keeping her teeth. |
