carrots Good Afternoon...I have a 8 month old yorkie..a friend said that she gives her dog carrots as a snack...is that okay? Thanks |
So funny I'm reading this while cooking carrots for my Ruger. He doesn't like them raw. He's such a picky eater I alternate between carrots and green beans. Actually I cook them in water with a little beef broth. Haven't had any bad stuff from him eating them. |
Our girls love carrots, raw or steamed. As a snack we will feed baby carrots raw and they really love them. We also feed them green beans, peas, and some other veggies. |
:welcome4: :yorkietal Welcome to our growing family of Yorkie lovers My girls love carrots as well - both raw and steamed |
Yep, my kido loves carrots raw or cooked. |
Carrots Thanks for the support...we will try them...for our little boy..what a great site for information Linda, Robert & PB...:: |
Carrots raw or cooked like everyone else says. He will gobble the cooked ones right up (I think theyre a little sweeter this way) and he likes to play with raw baby carrots the way he plays with his biscuits a bit before finally eating them. |

My pups like carrots...also green beans! :) I do cook the carrots...over abundance of caution due to the possibility of choking. (I have older pups with some missing teeth) |

Is it ok to give baby raw carrots to my 12 week old pups? My other Yorkies loved raw carrots. |
IDK if it's ok to give a 12 week old raw carrots, but I personally would not, reason, baby is just 12 weeks old, I am assuming you just got him / her or you may have the baby a few weeks, this baby is still adapting to their new life with you as it's new momma, I personally would not want to add something to their diet that may upset their digestive system. Maybe a few pieces of cooked carrots or other cooked veggies in very small portions along with their food, I see no harm in that as long as it's in very small portions. Lets see what others members say. |
Welcome to YT Same here about carrots |
Both my Furbaby love Carrots, sliced Apples, Boil Cabbages, Whole Wheat Bread, and Cheese. Moderation is the key. Very tiny pieces just for snacks. Don't change their diet or they may get diarrhea. |
I will be dog sitting for a friend's yorkie over Thanksgiving. She daily gives her dog a carrot, out of the fridge, uncooked. One of the small ones, of course. There are plenty of people foods that you can safely give to dogs. Stay away from Xylitol, an artificial sweetener that can be found in all kinds of foods, including some brands of peanut butter(!) It is poison to dogs and will kill them. Sometimes it is spelled differently, but it is still poison. You should never give grapes or raisins, and no onions. This means table scraps, which might have onion cooked in are even more of a no-no. Good foods include pumpkin, blueberries, green beans, apples, kale, and broccoli. But, always in moderation. Introduce new foods in small amounts, more of a taste test or potential treat. If your dog hates it, it would never be a treat, now would it? ;) |
