13 yr old with allergies - reverse and other sneezing Hi All, I'm back again for some help. Charlie will be 13 end of Sept. In April we moved back to my childhood neighborhood from an area that had a lot of concrete and buildings. It wasn't really in the city but we lived in a city like neighborhood of the area. Anyway...we moved back to an area with a ton of pollen and both Charlie and I are suffering from allergies. I have both Zyrtec and Claritin here. I read through some posts that show I can use either for Charlie but I couldn't find how much he should get. Symptoms: watery eyes, reverse sneezing, regular sneezing, rubbing face on rugs and furniture. Can anyone tell me a safe dose for a 4.5 - 5 pound yorkie? He is on the lean side due to his chronic pancreatitis. This will be his first time taking a med for allergies. Are there any signs I should watch for as far as an adverse reaction? Thank you all. You've helped my Charlie several times now:) I'm so thankful for this place. |
Before you give anything I would go to and check with the vet first. |
Well...first...just please don't get your hopes up *at all*, okay? And don't make him suffer through these miserable allergy symptoms for long. These over-the-counter allergy meds rarely work for dogs. The rule of thumb for most Vet Derms is to give the allergy OTC meds a 10-day try to evaluate. Most likely, you'll need to proceed to giving Atopica or Apoquel or Cytopoint. If you PM me your email address, I will email you the sheet my Vet Dermatologist gave me for OTC allergy med dosages and you can go from there and you should CONFIRM DOSAGES with your regular vet prior to starting anything. |
