Winston's sick, looking for advise
 
So Winston (13 years old) caught kennel cough while being treated for acute kidney failure from being treated for congestive heart failure. He's currently getting fluid hydration and Science Diet KD food, which has improved his kidney function tremendously. But the cough is bad...his vet added Torbutrol today. Any experience from my Yorkie loving friends? It seems like the more we do to help him the worse he gets...poor little guy. Is it ok to suppress the cough? I just want him to be happy and comfortable. Suggestions? Thanks in advance....a prayer or two would be nice as well.

Thanks Taylor...appreciate you! Just don't know which way to turn, what to do. He also has collapsed trachea and had a seizure last night. I think he's exhausted and stressed out from all the vet visits, needle sticks and test. And another medicine.

Sad to hear this news. When Peekaboo was having similar problems, he was on torbutrol as needed. It helped him get some rest and I think the coughing triggered some CT episodes, so it helped there too. Throat massages and steamy bathroom time also helped him. Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear Winston is under the weather! I don't have any good advice. :( But wanted to send well wishes your guys way.

So sorry for all that both of you are going through, but you have been blessed to have had him for 13 yrs he is beautiful

I am a believer that Olive Oil is a wonderful Nature Med(to help with cough)

...and it doesn't hurt to try it.

No advice but lots of prayers for Winston. It's so heart wrenching when they are sick.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers everyone...Winston is still coughing but otherwise holding his own and seems somewhat stable. How long does kennel cough last? His vet gave an antibiotic injection that was supposed to last 10 days and this is day 12...I give him the cough suppressant every evening so he (and I) are able to get some sleep. He's getting fluids twice a week and he is still on KD food and Enalapril for his CHF. He's lost a little weight but eats well. I just want this horrible cough to go away...will it ever?
