Health Insurance I am six weeks away from taking my first puppy home and I am trying to decide whether or not to purchase a health insurance plan. I have gotten mixed answers from other dog owners. However, none of them have Yorkies. I would love some of your opinions. |
In my opinion yes. I didn't have it on my first one and she had three knee surgerys over $2000 each, allergies that are very expensive, and more. I got it for my next two and it's $52.00 for two of mine. I use healthy paws. |
My last yorkie had genetic IBD and the vet bills were expensive. I bought pet insurance on my yorkie Kinder when I first brought her home. I am thankful I have it because she has had Uti's off and on. Now she has calcium oxalate crystals along with a Polp in her bladder. I find out Aug. 30 if she has to have surgery and I am glad she is covered. If we ever bought another puppy I would definitely buy insurance it is worth it. Susan |
I have Healthy Paws. Have only used it once but it paid for itself that one time. Get it immediately when you get the dog. Changing companies later is difficult because if any illness have come up they are considered pre-existing. The rates do go up over the years, but then what doesnt:D |
My grand-dog who is 55 pounds at 10 months, has Nationwide with a wellness package that really sounds good. If I were starting over it would take a close look at that plan. |
I would! We lost Our Tobi (yorkie) to tracheal collapse, Nov. 2016. We spent $10,000 over 5 years trying to save him !! |
I highly recommend pet health insurance. I could kick myself for not having it for mine. The money I have spent is mind boggling. Yorkies are prone to SO many health issues now. This is a great website that compares the more popular plans. https://www.consumersadvocate.org/pe...8aAuPDEALw_wcB |

Same here. We did not get insurance for Max or Sasha and we have spent thousands. I won't make that mistake again. |

I let the insurance expire on all of mine. I've now spent *thousands* on Marcel's recent issues with his discs. |
Wow, thank you all for your advice. It sounds like insurance is a good idea. I really appreciate your help. |
I would get the puppy insurance. I just got a puppy and Clyde was insured with Embrace the day I got him. As a long time yorkie owner, I've been thorough lots of health issues and spent a lot of money. |
