Incorporating canned pumpkin into diet Does anyone use pumpkin as a staple in the diet? |
I only use it if they are constipated or have runny stool. |
Our pup tends toward constipation with just kibble. So, we use pumpkin and carrot sticks. We used to use applesauce but once she seemed allergic. Anyway, I read a good suggestion to get an ice cube tray and fill with the pumpkin puree and freeze. Then you just pull out the cubes. I am planning to do that........just have to buy an ice cube tray. |
pumpkin You have to buy the Pumpkin Puree, not the Pumpkin PIE can. Bayleigh, pumpkin stops diarrhea so you really don't want to give it to a puppy that suffers constipation. Maybe add a little water sprinkles to the kibble to help stop constipation. :) |

It was thought to be good, to give pumpkin to dogs...but not anymore...just like coconut oil! Try slippery elm instead, mix it in water, tastes like a light herbal tea. Great for people too! If you google it, you can find lots of 411 on it: https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/slippery-elm I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/NOW-Slippery-...s=slippery+elm |

If you just want fiber, there are much more effective ways... |
I had to use that or canned low sodium green beans for impacted anal glands....it did soften stool |
Veggies I spoke with my breeder today. She expressed her belief that fresh pureed pumpkin is great but stay away from canned. Guess in October I'll be processing a year's worth. I am going to buy a bunch of ice cube trays. |
