My Yorkie's eye is crossed Hello! I have a one year old Yorkie (Lily) who was playing in the dirt last night and I noticed she had her nose in a hole. Looking closer, I noticed that there were tiny bees flying around. I swooped her up and took her in, not noticing anything was wrong. Now, she appears to have something going on with her eye......swelling of the eyeball...third eyelid a little red....and her eye looks like it's crossing😩 Wondering if this could be caused by a sting or if something is going on other than that. I take pics of her everyday so I know her eye was not crossed earlier. Yes, we are going to Vet this afternoon, but so concerned that I thought I'd get your opinions also. So worried!!! Thanks so much....it's been a few years since I've been on YT |
No opinion, vet visit is best ASAP, especially when it comes to bee sting in the eye. Please keep up updated. When ever my kid has his nose to the ground I am there is a flash, we have red ants that bite and sting, and wasps that bury themselves in the earth, these kids have to be watched with a hawks eye. |
You need to not wait to go to the vet you need to go asap. With eye issues it does not take long for them to lose sight. Any eye issues should always be treated as an emergency. |
Agree with others. Vet now. They'll want to do a stain - $29 - $39- or so dollars - so they can look for any direct injury - scratches, punctures, ulcers, etc., in the cornea and then the doc will do a thorough head, mouth, neck exam to see if there are other medical problems or injuries causing the swelling. She could have a sting but you have to know if she does if treatment is needed. And you sure need to know if it is not a sting what is causing her eye to be so swollen and red. I hope it's something very easily treated!!!! |
Thank you girls! Leaving soon. |

Well, the Vet did an extensive examination. Finding was....conjunctivitis with swelling of the eyeball and redness in the lids. She could tell that the eye was bulging a little so she also tested her pressure which was fine and in the normal range. She also feels that Lily does have a lazy eye but she said once swelling goes down, the eye may straighten out more. But.....still could have the lazy eye!! She is on steroid eye drops and will go back for a follow up in one week. Still worried but it could have been a lot worse. Thank you all for your concern! Could you tell me if there are threads on lazy eye? I have totally forgotten how to look things up:( |

Lazy eye in humans does cause double vision and blurring of vision most of the time although with effort and strain I can focus the visual mess away but it takes effort and concentration and hurts beside my eye when I do. It sure plays havoc with certain situations so watch out for maybe some odd reactions to oncoming objects, things you hand him or flashing lights or light reflections off things in wet weather, etc. Sometimes my lazy right eye sees a 3/4, offset, angled overlay of what my left eye sees normally, creating an odd, very distracting visual, creating uncertainty in what I'm seeing. If dogs have anything like that, your little one might be a little anxious, seem confused, tense or have some behavior problems until both visual fields match again. I imagine she is confused if her vision is newly affected. But maybe dogs don't have the same visual problems with lazy eye as we do so you may notice no change in behavior. |
