Portions on kibble. My vet told me her caloric needs. That's so nice, but I need PORTIONS. I went with the 2.8 pound portion and moved it to around 1/2 of a cup- sometimes a bit more. Any time chewie says she want her either whitefish, lamb, or mackerel kibble I'm very eager to give her some. I call them little vitamin pellets. Her new kibble is a lot bigger, and she, like many other dogs, doesn't chew all of it. This evening she gobbled down her kibble like a champ, but as usual I worry if she's getting enough of it. She really does hover between 4.8 and 5.4 pounds. she was 5.2 last week when she got sick. is 1/2 a cup of kibble a good amount? She won't eat kibble wet, and since she'll eat it dry, I've decided not to fight her. |
I think if her body condition feels good, then you're probably hovering around the correct amount. You may need to decrease just a bit as continues into adulthood... |
I agree with Ann. In general, kibble serving quantity depends on the brand. Some are more dense, more calories and fat per cup than others. One brand may be 300 calories per cup, while another one may be 400 calories for cup. Example: When I fed Orijen, I served less per day. With Fromm, I feed more per day. Feed less than the guidelines on the kibble bag. They usually overestimate the right serving. |
