Apoquel side effect I have few questions about Apoquel, new monoclonal medicine for allergies is not been permitted in Uk as they said it would be in the beginning of April 😢.My vet is so against Apoquel saying that dogs can have organ failure and other bad side effects after long term of using Apoquel. My question is,is anyone's baby on Apoquel for long time?any side effects? Will my girls hair grow back?at this moment she lost a lot of hair on her top head, chest and sides.her hair is really brittle and dry.her skin changed colour, she is quite dark😭.We checked her thyroid and came back perfect.I don't know what to do,I can't sleep and I feel sick. Can anyone give me any advice please I don't know what to do. |

One of my pups was just put on Apoquel this week. She is already showing signs of relief from her terrible allergies. All meds have side effects...I think you have to weigh the benefit vs risk on any med. I know many people who give Apoquel to their pups without any issues. |
Actually apoquel is one of the much safer allergy meds. Mine has been on it for two years and is fine. |
Apoquel side affects Thank you so much for your answers, did your kids lost any hair due to allergies ?will it grow back after I find right medication?strange thing is that my girl didn't list hair on all body, just top of the head, chest and top sides of her body 🤔.she has both food and environmental allergies, can allergies makes her hair so looking unhealthy?I never new dogs can have allergies until now😢 |
My boy has been on apoquel for a bit over two years, with no side affects. |

She may also need antibiotics and baths ... my vet has recommended Malaseb for my girl based on her scrapings. Sometimes they use shampoo with Chlorhexidine. I once had a pup with hair loss due to flea allergies...I got him from a shelter and he was a mess. Elephant looking skin that was black in spots and a lot of hair loss. The vet at that time recommended Selsun Blue shampoo baths 3 times/week followed with a 50/50 warm water and white vinegar rinse. His hair started to grow in a couple of weeks. I always like to share his before and after photos.....their hair does grow back ! :) Index of /cody Just click on the first two links on that page and you will see his photos. |

Has your vet done skin scrapings on her to see if she has bacterial or fungal skin infection? Also.....if your vet is not comfortable using Apoquel you might want to try another vet. |

I've had 2 of my dogs on it and they do amazing on it. Have also used its "cousin", Atopica, which is equally amazing. As far as the fur loss - AND bc you're seeing such skin issues, you should *absolutely* rule out Cushings disease as a cause. Are there any other symptoms at all...even random ones? Increased drinking, peeing, appetite? Pot belly? Heat intolerance? Lethargy? Recurrent skin or ear issues? All of those (and more!) are related to Cushings. The very first test for Cushings is the Cortisol-Creatinine Ratio Urine Test. Then you do ACTH, depending upon results of that first test. And btw, the vast majority of generalist vets DO miss diagnosing Cushings ALL THE TIME. My Wylie was misdiagnosed for almost 2 years. |
