Meal Plan for Yorkie Puppies Hello All. I am the proud new mom to a 7 week old Yorkie Puppy Ralphie. I have read so much about the diet that i am confused. How many portions, what size portions of food should I be giving ralphie. I dont want to overfeed but I dont want to underfeed and cause blood sugar problems either. All feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you! Laura :animal36 |
Congratulations! And, contact your breeder PDQ for answers to your questions. How much; how often; what kind! Your breeder should have given you all that info in writing before the puppy left her house. Especially considering how young the puppy is. He should still be with his doggy family for another 35 weeks.. So, find out what she did and then ask if you should follow that. We will be glad to help FREE FEED is ideal when they are so young.. |
They are suposed to be with their pupy family for that long? wow she did give me alot of info about type of food and what not, just the portion size ismy main question. Thanks for your reply :) |

35 weeks? Ya have to mean 35 days don't ya? |
How old is your puppy? |
i was told to give my 11 wk old 20 pellets of dry food and 1/4 can wet food 3-4 times a day. SHe is 13 wks now adn we stopped the wet food as per the vets reccommendations so we give more dry to fill her up. And do that 3-4 times a day with a few peices of a low cal treat with it. |
A couple weeks ago someone told me to feed 5% of their weight. Weigh them - multiply by 16 to convert to ounces. Then multiply by .05 to get amount you feed. Missy is 15 weeks old and she's getting 1/4 cup of Canidae a meal. |
At this age , you should free feed the little one . Personally , I will never place a feeding schedule on a puppy of this age . |
Wow, 7 weeks is a little young to be away from mom, no? I would free feed. |
Thank You WOW you guys have all been so helpful with that information. Thank you for taking the time to contribute. !! |
Free feed.. agreed. I also read after about 6 months--one tablespoon per pound of weight--2 x's a day-- morning and evening. 4 lbs equals-- 4 tablespoons in the morning-- 4 tablespoons in the evening. |
I don't think at that age you have to worry about them over feeding! I would free feed and keep an eye on how much Ralphie is eating. Make sure he's eating a decent amount. Since he's so young, what you can do is also water down the kibble to make "puffies" as I always call them, they are much easier to eat and go down easier. At this age more food is the safest bet... |
